Liverpool Schematic and Layout for critique

Post by drhulsey »

I present this Liverpool layout and schematic first for critique. Please let me know if you see mistakes. These both came from study of Krÿger's schematic, Liverpool photo's, Allynmey's clone photo's, and help from Allyn and Dana. I hope those I bugged with questions understand that I REALLY did try to deduce answers from the pic's first :? I hope these will be of help to those beginning to develop a plan to build a Liverpool, and may answer some questions they have. I have put in many hours of study, questioning, and drawing. It has made me understand the circuit much better, and I hope it will be of help to others.
Tonestack revised.
Notes on some PI component values added 8/22/07.
Correction of B3+ and B5+ which were reversed; B1+ added 8/31/07.
Added ground for R17,18 9/12/07
Added ground for PT HT and heater center taps 9/14/07
MOV, fuse positions corrected 11/18/07

Looks nice Tim. The presence control is set that way to remove DC from the pot. The originals used both ways in different models. 8)

Is the 500pF/1M bass pot combination on the tone stack now considered correct for all Liverpools, or has this come from one of the Express-voiced ones (such as Genevieve)? Previously published schematics have shown 50pF/250K.

More likely due to fatigue-induced lack of convergent vision  Revisions made. Thanks for your input, Paulster :!: Let me know if you find anything else awry.

Great work!!!!

What's the difference between this (116) and your earlier versions (438/640). The notes?

See Dana's post here though (http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.ph ... ght=#27494). That's what grabbed my attention.

Nice work! I have added it to the Schematics and Layout thread in the Trainwreck Files section.

Tone stack corrections; 2-40µF filter caps in parallel instead of a 80µF; a few notes.

Concept Draw is a Mac program similar to Visio for Windows. One impetus for doing the layout was to get a handle on this program.

Mark Abbott's schematic shows the 50pF cap and 250k (bass) pot as does Krÿger's. Mark suggests a log taper while Krÿger' shows a linear taper. :? IIRC, Mark has seen the guts of some real 'pools. Should this bass pot be log taper for the purposes of this schem and layout?

Thanks, Omar :!: I hope it will be helpful to some. Thank YOU for this GREAT forum :!: :D

Sorry guys I had a brain fart. 1M for the Express and 250k for the Liverpool. 47pf or 50pf will work just fine. Most of the 47pf come closer to 50pf than the 50pf do when you measure them. (At least that's the way it has been for me.) For what it is worth, I used a 250k Linear in my Liverpool and it seems to work great. Most of the guitarists that I have let try the amp out did'nt want to bring it back so I'm not changing anything in mine. It is one of the best sounding amps I have ever built. 8)

The proof is in the tone :!: I want to build one for great TONE to gig with, not so much as an homage to Ken (as Allyn did so well on his Express) 8) BTW, when can I borrow your Liverpool :?:

Really nice drawings, Tim! In fact, I have them before me as I finally connect everything up on my Liverpool build.

One thing, and I am almost too embarrassed to admit it, the power switch on the layout is shown as though it were right-side-up, and that's how I wired it. Why is the little light on when the power is off?
