Good point, the OP doesn't say what amp this is. Dana, how about a trim pot in series with lug 3 of the VVR pot (between pot and B+ / drain connection) for limiting the maximum B+ available for someone using a transformer that puts out too high a voltage? Useful for someone using a transformer spec'...

Is there a particular reason the NTE is used or just everyone copying off someone's schematic? I got some similarly rated MOSFETs for $2 each.

The capacitors you want to purchase are paper in oil or PIO capacitors. The 59 Les Paul had 0.022uF capacitors. The smaller the value of capacitor, the more treble you retain as you turn down the tone knob. You might want to try anything between 0.01uF to 0.022uF. I like 0.01uF in the neck position ...
