Re: Peavey Alpha Bass Tone Stack Action

Hi, I am not familiar with the Peavey Amp and Tone-Stack, but the "stack" is only partially a stack, as the mid pot is not stacked under the other controls and bleeds off the signal for mid frequencies only. But the bass pot is still under the treble pot. In the Bass community here in Germany I don'...

no grommets. The holes are big enough to ensure, the glass does not touch the metal. The holes should have a decent size anyway to make sure, the heat of the tube parts that sit inside the box can get out

Re: Building Power Supplies for 2 X 12ax7 pedals

don't enclose the tubes inside a closed box. You will have thermal issues. Let them protrude through the top side and protect them with drawer handles from your local hardware store. For transport I use a hard case to protect the protruding tubes. Had no issues so far (10+years in use). Heating with...

Re: How to wisen up a bit?

while the NEETS training can give you some basic understanding on how circuits work, it will not tell you how to design your own amplifiers and how to make em sound the way you intend them to sound you should set priorities right: 1. build known designs, make them safe to use 2. mod existing designs...

Ha, found a working link. http://compatt.com/Tutorials/NEETS/NEETS.html
seems to be a more modern version than I was aware of (around 2012)

Re: How to wisen up a bit?

a good source is the former "Navy Electricity and Electronics Training Series". you will have to google it, my old link does not work anymore. It is a "well matured" training series for Navy members to Electronics in general, but there is also a dedicated chapter for tube amps (at the time, when it ...

Re: Building Power Supplies for 2 X 12ax7 pedals

Re mini-tubes: I only have experiences with 6N17B and 6N16B. While the 6N17B is a very easy to handle tube which behaves very similar to a 12AX7 the 6N16B is a very low gain tube which is only useful as a cathode follower but not as a gain stage. Re voltage pump: I built mine exactly as in thew sche...

Re: Building Power Supplies for 2 X 12ax7 pedals

Have you ever thought of using a voltage pump for the HT? I built a bass preamp years ago with two 6N17B pencil tubes (4 triode-systems in total). PSU: Wall wart 12VDC, directly heats the tubes with 12V, worked fine (Ih=600mA for 2x 12AX7, Ih=800mA for 2x 6N17B) HT: 12V feeds the voltage pump, resul...

You could also look at poplar plywood if this is available in your region. It is significantly lighter than BB

Re: deluxe reverb lead dress

Fender's Layout does not look like it is by chance. There is a lot of intelligence in the layout, which seems counterintuitive when you look inside the chassis. But this rat's nest has a well thought structure. Look here for evidence: https://www.ampbooks.com/mobile/amp-technology/layout/ The circui...

Hi, I might be a bit late to this discussion. I had some different Hot Rods on the bench some time ago, and they all share similar problems ("Hot Rod Disease"). Here you find a collection of common problems together with solutions. Your problem is listed too: http://hotroddiy.com/ http://hotroddiy.c...

I also have a JBC for around 10 years now. Phenomenal! The tips heat up in 6 seconds to full heat, when in the stand it cools down to prevent grilling the tip and when you pick it up, it reheats in 3 seconds. strong recommendation!

Re: The 1ohm Resistor Method for Biasing

It’s a fair point, I used awful solder on this project. But however I will be rebuilding it at some stage. The idea is to get it working first With all due respect: Working sloppy and expecting to get it working before you correct your mistakes is begging for trouble and repels those who are willin...

I know this guy personally. A retired University professor for acoustics and signal processing. He wrote the, to my knowledge, single book about the physics of the electric guitar. He knows the stuff inside out. Wrong adress if you believe in mojo. Difficult personality though...
