I have a 112 with a Gold and it is the best allround I have tried.
I used to have a G12-65 but the gold is nicer I think, certainly on cleans and is a bit tighter with the bass
I am told the G12-65 rocks nice with the DC30 which is what I also have
So I think G12-65 and gold would be excellent.

Spoke to Mercury they recommend a Bassman OT (Tweed 59 tone clone)
In their words "Our FO50BM-16 sounds best for the 50 watt "

Re: Best Output Transformer for 50W 2 X 6L6 and 2 x EL34
Hey Thanks for that. The A-470 is that the Ultra Linear..I have an old transformer from a Leak audio amp which is ultra linear .I wonder if that would be suitable. It supplied 2 old Mullard EL34's which are actually Philips valves from 1957, which owned Mullard at the time. I dated these and it tur...

Re: Best Output Transformer for 50W 2 X 6L6 and 2 x EL34
It seems the A-470 Dynaco or clone is the popular one
Mercury Magnetics do a Dynaco OD-50, presume this is similar to the A-470 clone by Triode but big difference in price
Is the Triode one good?
The exchange rate is killing us here in the UK so any saving would be great

Best Output Transformer for 50W 2 X 6L6 and 2 x EL34
Hi Guys Re Output transformers, is there a preferred type for the 50W version non-HRM and HRM . I would like one with 16ohm taps. Not sure whether to go 6L6 or EL34 at present. There is mention of the Dynaco OD-50 and the Mercury Tweed Bassman 59 OT but someone spoke to Mercury and apparently they r...

Re: 100K Plate 1.5K vs high plate version
HRM is a high volume amp IMHO. It absolutely shines at high volumes. The real one I heard certainly did. Really? Funny that I find the HRM's seem to bloom better at low volumes, which is one of the reasons I like them. The HRM is my next build...Looking forward to hearing one..I love my non-hrm tho...

Re: 50W Vintage Linear Transformer - HRM project
I suppose a linear would not be suitable as it would not distort the same
I guess it would be good for a 50W SSS

Re: 100K Plate 1.5K vs high plate version
Thanks alot guys. I am a bedroom player but hope to get into a band soon so may play with this later. At the moment will leave it it as it is.
I am thinking of a HRM soon. I suppose I could play with different values on this one?

50W Vintage Linear Transformer - HRM project
Hi Guys I have an old audio amplifier my dad gave me which is 50W similar to an old mullard 510. It runs two EL34 Mullards, 2 12AX7s and one EF86 and has a GZ34 rectifier. Although it is a Linear transformer, could it be used for a HRM build? Any comments or help would be appreciated. Regards Richard

Re: 100K Plate 1.5K vs high plate version
Many thanks guys Ic-Racer those links were great. The 100K is basically a better clean amp. Is it more flexible then and versatile except for the edgier distortion? I'm not sure if it is worth changing my higher plate for the 100K I suppose its just a few resistor changes What is the most popular pr...
