Re: 1966 ampeg Gemini

Yes, some did have 7868s. Those are electronically the same tube as 7591s really...just a different pinout. I do think all the Gemini 1s used 7591s. The IIs started out with 7591s and they began building them with different power tubes in some runs. They even made some later Geminis with 6L6s IIRC (...

Yeah, that whole LP is priceless!! What a classic! As a son of Detroit and a WSU alumnus, I got a lotta love for Kenny Burrell.

Re: My 5F6A head build

Thanks man. Yeah, they're both good and useful. The biggest difference seems to be in the attack of each note/chord. In fixed bias, the attack is faster, "harder" and more precise. In cathode bias, it's not as hard/stiff (boy these are some funny, double-entendre kinda adjectives I'm coming up with,...

Re: My 5F6A head build

Did another clip; this time, have the amp biased better (it was rather cold in that first clip..my bad) and I switch back and forth between fixed and cathode bias.

Re: My 5F6A head build

Thanks guys. cbass--I'm just using that white tolex glue that CED and Mojotone sell. Stuff is really easy to deal with, FWIW. The best stuff though, IMO, is this similar white, rubbery glue called Wilsonart H2O...but I can't find it around here anywhere. The was even easier to use (and worked better...

That's the cab I'm using in the video at the bottom of the original post in this thread.

Re: My 5F6A head build

I really dig the cosmetic design of your cabinet. Especially the curves and the two tone. The gold piping adds . Who did the logo manufacture , may I ask ? Thanks man. I had Sandy @ Precision Design in IN do the faceplate and she did my "Tonester" badge too. She's great to work with, fast, and reas...

Re: My 5F6A head build

BTW, here's a shot of the head in the cab. It's a mashup of Supro-style mounting/construction (but I'm using inset-nuts and machine screws rather than wood-screws ) with mid-50s two-tone Gibson aesthetics, LOL. Re: My 5F6A head build

Thanks! Yeah, that's exactly how I feel. The tried and true stock designs are usually great and often suit the needs of many...but it's so liberating to have progressed to a point where you can get in there make some adjustments that tailor the basic design to your particular needs.

My 5F6A head build

I haven't built anything in the Fender vein for a while and I've always had the itch to have a '59 Bassman style amp. But these days, I can't really get away with that kind of volume anywhere I play...and space on stage is typically at a premium at the little joints I play (and unfortunately weight ...

Re: 5F10 Harvard Triple Inputs

I've seen references around the internet that each of the 3 inputs on the 5F10 has a different response or even gain. Other than some perception, I don't see how thiis is possible with the way that are wired. It appears that the first jack electrically is no different from the third. Am I missing s...

Re: So what's this varistor doing here?

Sorry, the schematic is huge. I think I'm beginning to understand this now. That lead that comes into the varistor is from the output of the tremolo circuit; so this probably has to do with amplitude modulation. I wonder how to get a handle on the value of varistor that was used...
