Re: need help

There's supposed to be a diode in there. Also, my copy of the kelly bias circuit is:

220k -> diode -> 10uf (positive to ground) -> 15k -> 10uf (positive to ground) -> 47k -> 20k pot

Re: need help

I always go though Paul Ruby's startup guide when first firing up and amp:

http://www.paulrubyamplification.com/in ... rstPowerUp

This should help you find any wiring mistakes.

Sounds like you may have a short somewhere.

Re: Today's the day! I'm starting my Wreck build!!

Well. I went ahead and drilled this old box I got surplus. It is 17x10x3, so a little oversized, but I have room to try other things. I live in Ballard, so it would be great to compare builds, seeing as I have never heard a real 'wreck. It would be interesting to see how our builds compare soundwise...

Re: Today's the day! I'm starting my Wreck build!!

Cool. I just finished my main turret board. I'm laying out the PS board right now.

What are you using for a chassis? I still need to order one.

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question

Doh!, my bad, I'm still on my first cup of coffee. The 5v connects to 2 and 8.

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question

No, other way around. Yellow leads connect to 4 and 6, yelllow/red to ground, gray to 6 and 8. B+ comes off of 8.

The guys on the list said try joining again.

The moderator on the jtm45 list wants to know what email you used to join, he says they haven't denied anyone joining.

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question

The PT HV leads connect to pins 4 and 6. The 5v leads connect to pins 8 and 9. You take the B+ off of pin 8. No need for bias. I've attached the main schematic. I'll ask on the list what is going on. Oh, and another piece of advice. Try the new ECC803 (long plate 12ax7) in v1. Really nice tube and s...

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question

Dumb question: I've only got one input for the guitar. That means I only need to use one half of V1 for the input, right? That's correct, but you may consider wiring both halves up and sending the single input to both jacks. Most every that plays a JTM45 jumpers the two inputs. Especially when play...

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question

Those transformers should be fine for a JTM45. Your B+ will be lower than a traditional JTM45 (my JTM45 has about 460 on the plates), so you may loose some volume (which probably isn't a bad thing). 6.6k taps on the OT would be perfect for KT66's, though the 5k might sound good if you want to experi...

Re: Which layout did you follow?

Looking more closely at ampdocs Kelly layout, the only differences to w2k4's layout seem to be due to the fact that ampdocs layout was for a PCB. The differences to w2k4's layout is minor. Since I going to do turrets, I'll follow w2k4's layout. Hey Omar, congratulations on the new addition to the fa...

Which layout did you follow?

I have all parts, and I just received my board material, so I'm ready to start mounting turrets (xformers should be here tomorrow). So I'm just wondering what layout to use. Looking at the two layouts in the Files section, for the most part w2k4 and Kelly seem pretty close, but there are a few diffe...

Which power supply?

Looking at the Kelly schems (thanks again David!), it uses two parallel 40uf caps versus the two 160uf caps in serial shown on the other schematics. Both give 80uf, but I'm just wondering if anyone has experiemented with both and can tell a difference. Also, I have a transformer that is a little on ...

Re: Project Amp Voltage chart

Hey Gary,
Thanks for posting those voltages, I just received a big order from mouser and will be starting my build soon. Still got to get board materials and decide on iron.

Can't wait to hear clips.
