Re: Power amps

There are schematics around the web for making stereo power. Do you have to build it? You can buy a used Marshall for less money than the transformers, and tubes. It's just a power section from the PI back, x2. Here in New Zealand the price of tube power amps is pretty crazy, building will be subst...

Power amps

Hi all, I've got a modeling effects unit (POD HD500) and was wondering about building an EL34 power amp for it, thinking 2x 50W so I could run it in stereo or bridge for 100W, anyone seen any similar projects or thoughts on how I could go about doing this?

Re: Tube Depot 5E3 kits

It's PCB-based. Seems well designed, but still PCB based. The OT isn't a proper 5E3 version but designed for BF amps. The PT is a BF version, way too hot at 350 V AC. Recto is a GZ34, too stiff for a 5E3. I've not tested it, but IMO this amp won't sound like a 5E3 and will fry the output tubes in a...

Tube Depot 5E3 kits

What's the general opinion on these? Seem like good value for a first build, would ditch the speaker tho, any thoughts?

Anyone got any build pics? I'm tempted to have a crack at one of these, we are 240v in New Zealand as well :)

Re: The "best" "small" amp?

10thTx, I'm really interested in that Little Wing amp. I think it sounds great! Do you have any interior and exterior pictures of that amp? So the 6BM8 is about the size of a EL84 tube. Checking around for them and looking at prices they aren't real cheap for the new ones and the NOS ones can set y...

Re: First Amp Build: Which One and where to source

The kits on www.ampmaker.com look pretty good and decent instructions as well, anyone built one of these? I'm keen on the 5W kit :)
