Re: Will and effects loop help with signal loss?
I have a friend whose running a gillion pedals n front of his amp, and is loosing a lot of signal. Excuse the dumb question, but would a tube buffered effects loop help his situation? He should make sure he has a buffer at the beginning and at the end of his chain of the pedal board, especially if ...

Re: swapping components on turrets
hi all, I recently built my first amp using a turrot board. I had to swap out some parts after it was assembled which wasn't as easy as I would had thought it would be. does anybody want to share some tips on removing and replacing parts? Specifically my problems were getting the solder out of the ...

Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra
How close is this amp to a real Jose modded marshall and can this amp achieve the early VH1 sound. #1) EVH never used an amp that was modded by Jose. Jose added one very small part to his amp and kept him tubed. Nothing like the mods he sold to everyone really. Framptons tone is more of a typical J...

Re: Kemper Profiling Amplifier
Widespread Panic was on Austin City Limits Saturday night. Jimmy Herring had two Fuchs amps, flanking each side of a rack with a Fractal Audio gizmo in it. I thought "why?". The Fractal is much more than a modeling preamp. Many people find it well worth it's weight in effects processing. I have one...

Re: Software for Layouts and schematics
Uhhhhhhh, that is awesome. John, did you learn all that software on your own over the years, or did you take classes? I think skills from a CAD class would come in handy for a lot of projects. Thanks, If I spent time to render it you can make it look real enough to fool people. Pretty much by mysel...

Re: Software for Layouts and schematics
In Eagle, when you select something like a resistor or capacitor, there seem to be so many options. is there some logic to what you choose in terms of size, value, etc? I ask because the code numbers they have don't mean anything to me. I like this type of program though in that it encourages you t...

Re: Software for Layouts and schematics
The other benefit to Eagle is that if you are designing a PCB based amp then you can give your Eagle file to the PCB makers and they will work with that. Not sure about other formats but I often see the reference to Eagle when it comes to small volume PCB makers. Eagle is like any other package, yo...

Re: Software for Layouts and schematics
Looks like Eagle has a Freeware version for home use. Only limitations are: The following limitations apply to the EAGLE Light Edition in general: The useable board area is limited to 100 x 80 mm (4 x 3.2 inches). Only two signal layers can be used (Top and Bottom). The schematic editor can only cr...

Re: switchraft switching jack failures
What problem(s) were you having, and what did CE say about it.? Thanks the switches were opening up and lifting the grid leak resistor out of circuit letting in a TON of RF and noise to the first tube stage. Scared the crap out of a few of my customers when their amp suddenly went crazy after silen...

Re: Software for Layouts and schematics
Can anyone point me towards Mac software for doing layout and schematics. EAGLE ! Cad soft USA You can use middle layers for routing off board wires. Maybe not as "pretty" as using an art program like Illustrator but the only way IMO to marry the layout and the schematic that are linked. That way y...

Re: switchraft switching jack failures
Does anybody have any definitive info-data-tests that show a difference between Cliff jacks and Cliff UK.? Has anybody compared one thousand of each and seen any kind of "scientific" difference.? You guys know what I mean. How many times can you insert and extract a plug before the jack fails.....s...

Re: New S100 Inspired Build
BTW, what de-fluxing spray do you like? Hey Carl whats up ! Do not use Flux off or anything like it unless you want intermittent problems and values that drift all over the place. That is all pretty well documented. i had major weird voodoo issues with Flux removing sprays. Clean everything off in ...

Re: switchraft switching jack failures
I have been experiencing a high failure rate with these type of jacks lately: http://www.allparts.com/Jacks-s/22.htm specifically that the switch is opening up, and letting a boatload of noise into the first tube stage when the amp is sitting there idle, minding its own business. Anyone else seen t...
