The Guitar Amp is a musical instrument in its own right.
Its sound is an integral part of your final sound - So no crappy amps thanks.
Don't forget the speaker either - my absolute favourite amp sounds the absolute best with only one speaker box out of the many I've tried it with.

Output Transformer is Raa of 4K to suit a pair of EL34 according to this:

Read in one of the tube era text books - 3 to 5 twists per inch.

Re: Ampeg VL-1002 --> Hiwatt DR103 Conversion
The Ampeg has a "Voltage Doubler" Power Supply for the high voltage. Just keep that same arrangement. It will give you suitable voltage and current for the 100W version of the HiWatt Output Stage. Do use 2 x 220uF rather than 2 x 100uF in the original Ampeg. 350V rated shoul be fine. Note that beeca...

Re: Switchable external bias points/probes?
Not sure I like the SVT CL Circuit. From values on schematic then each output tube typically idles at 24mA. The Green LED is normally ON The Green LED gets pulled OFF if any tube is below 15mA The RED LED is normally OFF The Red LED gets pulled ON if any tube is above 30mA These values set by R67, R...

Re: Eminence Speaker Advice...
2 speakers in series - same current in each, 1/2 voltage across each so half power in each. - if one speaker fails open circuit then the other is no longer connected - silence NOTE: Speakers typically fail open circuit NOT short circuit 2 speakers in parallel - same voltage across each, 1/2 current ...

Re: Switchable external bias points/probes?
I like separate monitor points for each tube plus the "ground".
I set idle current for each tube by measuring from its monitor point to ground
BUT
I do the final balance tweak by measuring between the 2 tube monitoring points and adjusting for a reading of zero.

Re: Dual Cathode bypass capacitor
Even so 2u2 to 4u7 is plenty. Then you can use a film cap instead of an electrolytic.

Re: Should OT Primary And Secondaries Wires Be Kept Apart?
OT primary wires carry the highest voltage signal levels - keep them well away from any preamp circuitry to avoid inadvertent feedback resulting in oscillation problems. The OT secondaries are less of a problem. Signal voltages are much lower and they represent a low impedance with respect to signal...

And remember that even if you get the amp schematic exactly right a significant part of your sound is determined by speaker choice.

Re: Odd Switch Question?
You can check out surplus suppliers like this one: http://www.surplussales.com/Switches/SWPushB-2.html You never know what might turn up, BUT, none on that site do what you want. I would do it in logic with momentary action push switches. The logic can be actual logic devices or diode transistor log...
