Re: Formvar
You can also scavenge off other pickups, wind right off a cheap POS to your new bobbin, re-pot in wax.

Re: What transformers to get 100w P/P KT88 amp?
the gec sheet say 625/600a.... 330g2....5kLa-a fixed bias 100w
You get 70w at fender V and 4k La-a fixed
but I got to tell you a pair with 50w iron is loud enough even cathode biased, and they're nice toned too.

Re: Pentode --> Tone Stack
you could put the volume before the tone a simple pentode pre- volume- half of a dual triode- tone stack and volume and then another pentode driving the other half of the dual triode as a split load invertor. I bet you could shrink in down using a couple 7199 , 6an8 or similar. theres several hagstr...

Re: 7868
I tend to favor NOS too, screen grid flash resistance might mean a tighter mfg tolerance, especially if it came to screen grid alignment inside the tube structure, I guess the EH product comes from a variety of eastern European and former Soviet and Russian sources, just simply being made to a metri...

7868
went through an old ampeg gemnini, replaced power side with the new production EH 7868, everything is fine. My only beef is that the pin wire is significantly bigger than the nos, it could be a real issue on fragile sockets and or flaky pin retainers in the socket, other than that its nice to have t...

4 to 5 k 550 to 600v
you can use a 50 w fender (or better) opt and a jtm 45 /100 replacement pt
I liked a high power twin generic pt and any 100w opt mismatched up to the load range, lower anode voltage but plenty O current.

Re: Shared vs. individual cathode bias resistors
There is a real issue of degeneration and how to use it. A shared bias resistor reduces harmonic derivatives in the push/pull circuit. You might just be hearing an increase in odd order distortion vs even order, or simply less feedback. Might be useful when you implement global feedback. should be a...

Re: post phase invertor effects loop
you have to make a differential amp the whole way thru the gain structure... or maybe sum both sides post PI as a send, then have another PI as the recovery, I guess the real issue is maybe just how practical the notion is. You might be able to sum both legs to send and then use the cathode of a buf...

Re: Ampeg Gemini I - hum hum hum !
sounds like you've isolated it to the power side. Old OPT may be, but check the first couple of filter stages in the PS up to the power tubes, does the PS or the OPT tranny look rusty over the lamination's?
