Re: Deleted
Missed the OPs question but the dowels holding the transformers up and bottom plate to prevent the chassis from collapsing isn't necessary unless shipping. I have a thin BUD clone chassis amp built 5 years ago and I never used the dowls. Didn't cave in at all or show signs of collapsing. If I ship i...

Re: Ideas for using the extra triode?
Run them in parallel like a Matchless Chieftan. It won't boost the gain (assuming you adjust the loads accordingly) but you might get better noise performance out of the circuit. A lot depend on where the extra triode sits in the circuit. But there was a tradeoff. Noise for touch dynamics I think i...

Re: Weber Revibe Tremolo/Reverb
Not sure who designed the revibe but Hoffman had one long before Weber did. Weber's first revibe used a more common tremolo circuit then later switched to the harmonic tremolo. Weber offers a kit with all parts. Hoffman only offers the boards and small components. My version is a pure scratch build...

Re: Weber Revibe Tremolo/Reverb
V1B then to V4a/b and out to amp? Correct. The tone is always affected by V4 but not in a bad way. You will need a true bypass switch if you want the output to be the identical to the input. Look at my revibe to see the signal paths. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing! Did Hoffman design the unit...

Weber Revibe Tremolo/Reverb
Have a question about how bypassing the effects work. You can find the schematic link at the bottom of the page https://www.tedweber.com/5h15-c-kt/ This is based on the original Fender 5g15 reverb unit with the addition of trem. When bypassing the reverb on the original Fender unit the signal goes t...

Re: How did Ken get away with using under spec impedance selectors?
Help me understand how much current runs through the impedance selector in a Trainwreck Express for 4 8 and 16 ohm loads. Assume you have a 4xEL84 amp that puts out 30 watts into a 4Ω speaker load. P = I^2 x R, so I = Sqrt(P\R) I = Sqrt(36\4) = Sqrt(9) = 3 amps. I'll let you do the math for 8Ω and ...

How did Ken get away with using under spec impedance selectors?
The later amps used a Lorlin selector as seen in Ingrid, Kitty, Reject ect. Ken wired the poles in parallel to double the load capacity. The data sheet that I could find are rated at 1A @ 24v ac/dc for what's still in production. I'm assuming because they look the same and they currently make a rota...

If your going to gig this amp youll probably want to transport it in a flight case. The wood would take a beating. You can pick it up from the lips on the front valance and back.

If I had to have a handle Id probably have a hand hole cut out of the sides of the cab.

Re: Trainwreck power supply/filter cap board
I don't see why you couldn't make a board or chassis mount them but really the Mallory or modern equivalent Spurge Atom cap stack fit pretty snug in a 2" tall chassis. Glue them in there and wire them up with solid core wire they aint going anywhere. I really don't know what all the fuss is about wh...

Yes it looks like you followed Kens layout minus the cap cans. Your gunna need to get your hands dirty if you want to fix it..

Re: How stable can you get an Express?
That sounds about right stable where the amp sounds best. Id say Vol pot ground looks wonky at the wiper and you over did the solder at the buss bar at that point. Ken bent the wiper lug over and soldered directly to the pot. Id reflow all the connection in the tone stack and pots. At fist glance it...

Re: How stable can you get an Express?
My mind was a bit blown when you said amp was stable with all controls maxed on first try.
Lets see some guts? Maybe you got a cold joint somewhere.

Re: AC10 repro chassis?
Off topic but did VOX ever use a Radio Spares El84 output transfomer for a AC10 or hopefully a EF86buid? Wanna build a EF 86 and have one of Steves repo el84s.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.
Id expect more power amp overdrive with a lower 260v winding. It would change the tone. Get a good attenuator.
