Matching a second V30 to the current
Hello, I will be finishing off a stereo (2 amps in one combo really) by the end of spring and would like to find a second Celestion V30 to match what I have been using in my gigging amp to get the direct guitar sound as equal as possible from each speaker. Is there a way, or a place to go to properl...

Re: Regarding grounding schemes of stereo input
As I"m studying these articles it certainly is looking to be that the location of where a ground is sent, as in isolated input jacks is important.
I'm just starting to think about how and where current is flowing and where it is coming back from.
Thank you,
Best,
Phil D

Re: Regarding grounding schemes of stereo input
Hi RG,
I've begun to read your article on grounding and already I have garnered some new insights.
Thanks for sending this link along.
Best,

Re: V1A or V1B for input
Thank you.
Its looking in my case that using the triode that makes for the best wiring/routing layout will be fine enough.
But I surely will keep the "pin 6, 7 and 8" claim in my head.
Thanks everyone,
Best
Phil D.

Re: Regarding grounding schemes of stereo input
Thank you, I will certainly reference that image. I did install isolated inputs and speaker jacks with 100pf caps from each input jack ground to nearby chassis (solder ring on first volume pot). I already have wires soldered to the inp jack grounds ready to solder to each jacks associated preamp gro...

V1A or V1B for input
Hello. I've been seeing varied opinions, or facts on differences between a 12ax7's two gain stages. Is anyone aware of a difference between them as far as what might be expected in noise, etc.... performance? My amp is going to be always in a clean low/medium volume so, no high gain noise excascurba...

Re: Regarding grounding schemes of stereo input
OK, again, thank you everybody for this great coverage of grounding schemes for the type of amp I am building. I'm at the point now where this recommended grounding scheme(s) is taking place. I did install fully isolated jacks for inputs and speaker outputs and did run 100pf ceramic caps from input ...

Re: Effect Pedal building
That sounds cool, piggy backing transistors to achieve optimal gain. When building my two fuzzes, I purchased sets/pairs from SmallBear electronics who creates sets with optimal gains. (70-90/110-130 I believe where the ranges). That does make for a very good sounding fuzz pedal. Good luck, Phil D

Re: Yet one more proximity rumination
Thank you guys,
I am using isolated output jacks and will heat shrink any lugs that could rotate into risky areas.
Thank you,
Phil D

Yet one more proximity rumination
Hello, Hopefully this will be the last thing to worry needlessly about but, would like to hear what you have to say about it. Upon finally loading the rear panel with power switches, trickle switch, fuse holder, and output speaker jacks, it was found that one of the power tube socket solder lugs com...

Yup,
Good illustrative image - and shows how and why that twisting works for post diode pair as well. Thank you.

Re: B+ cap location and wire length
Ah OK RG, thank you. For some erroneous reason I was imagining the HT coil CT as a neutral of sorts but sure, it has current on each half cycle. In that case it makes good sense to twist/pair it with the diode joined coil endings. Thank you trobbins. I will keep a good eye on the where abouts of the...

Re: B+ cap location and wire length
Thank you for your input here. This amp has a row of a 3" terminal strip that happened to be same lenght as the PT mounting length. With that, I can wire the 2 diodes to the HT coil right at the PT so those HT coil wires don't need to be any longer than a couple of inches long, which I thought would...

B+ cap location and wire length
Hello, The B+ (1st filter cap to OT primary CT) in my current build runs a tad longer than typical. I was curious if this was relatively OK. From the diode pair (rectifier) its about 4-5" to the 1st filter cap then another 5-6" to the OT primary CT. Ya think we are looking OK here? Or is there somet...

Re: 2 Channel amp - selecting channels
OK, thanks Sluckey. You have one input on this schematic where I have two inputs (one for each channel) but I believe that the use of that On-on-on switch can be implimented to provide a Left, Right, both options. This answers my question though that having the switch just before the grid resistor w...
