Looks very similar to what I use on mine; an O-ring between the socket and chassis.

Re: Two-Rock TS1 / ELI Ground Loop Hum nightmare

I take the response to mean that using the lantern battery solved the issue. It appears to have helped identify the problem but I can’t imagine he has a lantern battery sitting on top of his amp, lol. The next sentence was that he was converting the heaters to DC. So, maybe a bit preemptive t...

Re: Wood between transformers

Maybe you should have an answered my question like this in the first place. As a retired SATCOM SYSTEMS ENGINEER, when I ask a serious or technical question, I expect a serious answer. If I wanted a humorous answer, I would of asked a comedian. Thank you for finally providing a meaningful answer. F...

Re: Dead PT...autopsy help requested

johnnyreece, did you progress the repair? Sorry for the lack of replies; was on vacation with my in-laws. I have not decided yet whether I'm going to replace the PT with the same one that failed or a different one. So, short answer is, I don't have any updates. I wasn't able to find where the short...

Re: Dead PT...autopsy help requested

Thanks everyone for chiming in. I didn't think going too low on impedance was the issue, but I wouldn't consider myself an expert on magnetics, either. I suppose maybe it was just a coincidence. Makes me wary of buying one of the same make/model again, though. It only lasted two years of not heavy u...

Re: Dead PT...autopsy help requested

It was a 2A fuse. The amp is made to work with a variety of power tubes. As I was using it at home, I went with the lowest power option available (6K6). My favorite is KT66 with GZ34 rectifier. I've added a copy of the schematic, if that will help. I did do a partial teardown of the PT, and no luck ...

This is the transformer. May try one again. Price is decent enough, anyway. Although, it may be a case of you get what you pay for…

I am clear on what you posted , so you were running an 4 ohm load on the 16 ohm amp tap?
Correct.

Dead PT...autopsy help requested

So, I was running my 5e9-a-based amp on 6K6GT tubes into what I *thought* was a 16-ohm cabinet. Turns out, it was wired as 4 ohm (my bad; should always verify). After playing for a couple hours, the fuse popped while the amp was sitting at idle. I assumed maybe one of the old tubes I was running kic...

Re: Paralleled 6SL7 Stage Driving TMB - Too Bassy

For a quick test, you could try disconnecting the cathode bypass cap. Removing the cathode cap will lower the gain above the corner frequency but increase the bass response. Maybe there's a terminology difference here. Proportionally, yes, I suppose losing the gain in the higher frequencies might b...

Re: Paralleled 6SL7 Stage Driving TMB - Too Bassy

I would like to second what Steve said. For a quick test, you could try disconnecting the cathode bypass cap. If that doesn't do enough, you'll probably want to look at coupling caps next. Hard to say without seeing the whole circuit (again, like Steve said...).

Re: Full coil 16 ohm vs 8 ohm partial coil - matching speaker

It seems we've strayed way off the original topic, so...here's a further stray. This site has an example of using a line matching transformer as an output transformer (among other uses). Can confirm, it does work for a 50L6: https://www.vintageradiolabs.com/makearadio/makearadio.com/misc-stuff/t-725...

The great thing about books is, you can go back and re-read something if it isn't quite clicking the first time through. You can also highlight and otherwise mark important passages.

Re: How to wisen up a bit?

I am looking for good info and resources, maybe in book form rather than interwebs,... I recommend M Blencowe's site: https://valvewizard.co.uk It's free, and there are pages on a variety of topics. Start with the .pdf on triode gain stages. That is the first chapter of his preamps book, and it wil...
