Thanks for the suggestion. I'll check that out

Re: Help me troubleshoot. Blowing tubes and fuses

In regards to the flash why are we ruling out that it was the tubes in that case? Would the voltages look good if a component was bad in the power supply? This is what I'm not following. I posted my measurement and they are pretty much in line with what others have gotten. So why would the tubes beh...

Re: Help me troubleshoot. Blowing tubes and fuses

I checked the voltages on all the filters and the wiring scheme. To my knowledge everything checks out. The flash occurred only once when I had the Winged Cs in and it was both tubes. Before I tried those tubes I had JJs and the amp was working fine. Since that first incident I've been having the is...

Re: Help me troubleshoot. Blowing tubes and fuses

johnnyreece, I'm pretty sure about the primaries. I bought the trannys from Rhinson and he was almost positive brown to V4 and blue to V5. I also checked out Allyns build and he used the same transformer from Heyboer. tubeswell, I posted the voltages. If there are others that I need to check please ...

Re: Help me troubleshoot. Blowing tubes and fuses

Ok, I really don't know where to start researching information that would help me diagnose this. I did a search on "chokes" and none of the threads really spoke of this. If my voltages are correct (see above) how can the tubes burn out? If there is a short would't that reflect in the voltage reading...

Thanks. I'll point my research in that direction and see what I can find.

Re: SD60 build completed! Clip...

That sounds awesome! How close is does it sound to an actual SD60? I had one but it's hard to tell from clips unless your A/B at the same time.

I have to get another one day.

Re: Help me troubleshoot. Blowing tubes and fuses

I've done this many times. During the build I do that with every section that I build and then another 3-4 times before I fire it up. I haven't looked at it since last week so time off won't help. If something is wired incorrectly wouldn't that show with voltages that are off or weird sounds? What a...

Help me troubleshoot. Blowing tubes and fuses

This is a Concorde build. The voltages seem fine (see below) and it sounds good but I blew 3 pairs of EL34s and 2 HT fuses. I originally tubed it with JJ EL34Ls and everything was fine. It was initially noisy when fired up but it quieted down and really sounded good. I wanted to try Winged Cs and wh...

Re: Can I do this?

Ok, I need to tix something before I consider switching to Concorde specs. Something is wrong because it just keeps blowing power tubes. Good news is I measure the voltages again and V4/5 are down to 487V and the B+ connections prom the power board are now 481V,452V and 429V. Preamp voltages on V1 &...

Re: Can I do this?

After having a chance to hear the amp with the K60 preamp I want to change it to a complete Concorde. I've read what the differences are, but I don't know exactly what those changes mean and need a little help. Please tell me if any of this 1. Remove 220k and replace with 330k that previously connec...

Re: Never heard of this

I've never heard of burning in an amp in this manner. I'm sure it can't hurt, but I'd think a better way would be to put all the tubes in and use a Variac to slowly bring up the voltage. And, i can't see much point in dropping your voltage 15 volts. That's a 3% difference that I'm pretty sure is no...

Re: Can I do this?

To be honest I'm still relatively new to this. I thought it was something that you were supposed to do with new amps. I would really like to lower my B+ voltage though. It's currently 505V and I'd like to get it down to around 490V. I read something here about lowering B+ with Zener Diodes. What are...

Re: Can I do this?

Sorry to interrupt the fun. I emailed a respected builder today about this and the answer I got was new to run the amp without tubes. Not sure where I found got the idea from in the first place, but lesson learn to verify information unless I am familiar with the source.

Re: Can I do this?

It's not burning in the entire amp, just the caps in the preamp and I guess as far as the signal transfers. I learned about it either here or on the gear page. I couldn't speak a out it technically, but I could vouch that it did make a difference with my last build and so far with this one before I ...
