Re: Sovtek Mig60 gain loss/high channel
I had the exact same problem when I had a Mig 60.....the stock jacks are junk...the Mig 60 was a respectable amp for the price, TONS of bang for the buck.

Re: How about Hammond 1760J for AC30 output transformer?
Using an open back cabinet with 2 8ohm speakers wired in series, like pdf64 mentioned, is a factor for sure, if getting the traditional/classic AC30 sound is very important to you....in which case Celestion Blues make an important contribution as well. Certainly not the only speaker configuration th...

This is why you're screwed if a chimp attacks you...
Been fascinated by the Great Apes for a while, especially since most of the species are on the way to extinction in the wild... Here's a good look at why chimps can toss humans like a paper bag. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ADk_4dTXt8 These hairless ones are just average size, nothing special or...

Forgot to mention that most of the last post was paraphrased from the London Power "DIY Speaker Cabinets for Musical Instrument" booklet.

Re: detuned cabinets
Yes, that's the idea. But instead of a cabinet & port being tuned to a small, specific frequency range, the port of a detuned cabinet is intended to affect a wider range of the frequencies that guitars produce. A speaker sized cut-out ends up working well because it's large enough to affect a wide E...

Re: detuned cabinets
I really enjoy using detuned cabinets, gave it a try after reading a thread on the topic. I ended up getting KOC's book on speaker cabs. It's a nice little reference book...along with explaining the detuned concept, it's got some good detailed information on the carpentry involved in building cabs, ...

Re: which El84's for rocket build? uk
Out of the 4 brands you listed, JJ's for sure...I also like the standard grade 6P14P, I'm pretty sure that Z-Wrecks come with the mil-spec version of those, the 6P14P-EV.

Re: Vintage EV 12Ls
I've had a few of the alnico "coffee can" ones, the SRO/12. Super-smooth, a nice and even EQ curve that sounds good with almost any amplifier...I especially LOVE them with Fender amps though, that's where they were magic for me...a hyper-efficient speaker at 103 db, they make low wattage amps really...

Re: Express Tube
Instead of getting new preamp and power tubes, I would concentrate on one or the other... NOS Tungsram and/or EI 12AX7's are nice and don't cost a fortune. The Winged "C" EL34's are very good, but for how much they've gone up in cost, a pair of Seimens would be a better choice sonically. All that sa...

Re: Classic-Tone Transformers fo AC30
The MM Woden is what's in my Rocket now, it's a really good sounding OT...I think Weber might have a decent price on them...well, decent for MM's usual retail pricing.

Re: Classic-Tone Transformers fo AC30
I contacted Classic Tone a while ago about which brand their AC30 OT's were based on, they claimed Haddon.

Yes Structo, easy fix...ended up being the first stage cathode bypass cap... swapped it out and all is good.
