Re: Measured Impedance of Speakers

Never knew that measuring speaker impedance could be a hassle, guess I just got lucky with the ancient Fluke 77 I got at a yard sale for $8.00...all my 16ohm speakers are right around 13.5 and all 8ohm versions around 6.5...My 8ohm alnico SRO's are the only ones that measure lower at 5.7 & 5.9...

Re: A first time for everything!

Definitely a great trick when using the "vinyl" sort of stuff! I also like to use a hair dryer to relax any piping that is super stiff and uncooperative....I think "cane" grill material is the toughest to get right...some one once suggested to me to mist it very evenly with water and let it dry so i...

Re: A first time for everything!

Pretty damn good for a first time buddy...I worked at an auto upholstery shop after high school, and those materials were much easier to work with than most guitar cabinet grill cloths, which usually have patterns that jump out at you if you don't get it just right... it certainly takes doing a coup...

Re: Starting Liverpool build

Looking good!
I'm digging the chassis service rack you have, is that something you built or purchased?

Re: Measured Impedance of Speakers

Wow, that cracking speaker frame problem is good to know, never would have thought of that happening...looking at one of mine now and holding it, they are stupid heavy.... The idea of hauling a Twin Reverb around loaded with a pair of these is comical, I imagine most of the frame cracks happening wh...

Re: Measured Impedance of Speakers

Didn't think of that...just went back and looked, and it appears to be a DMM set to read ohms...here's the link, he wants an awful lot of money for 'em.

Measured Impedance of Speakers

While browsing Ebay tonight, I noticed a pair of 8 ohm Alnico EV SRO 12" speakers...The pics show each 8ohm speaker hooked up to a meter, one measuring 8.6 ohms, the other 8.9... I have a pair of the same speakers, and mine show 5.7 and 5.9... I was under the impression that an 8 ohm speaker should ...

Re: 4x12 cab dudes, check in.

In past experiences with Celestions, before I heard about Scumback, I got a little frustrated... I found the G12M-25w Greenbacks to be too dark, and the G12H30's a little too bright and edgy. The J75-PVC is killer , it's my favorite ceramic magnet speaker, especially with the 25w Kraft paper. I am t...

Re: PSA: Cheap Piping Source

That's good to know, thanks for the tip! I've been getting mine from a local auto interior shop @ $1.00 per ft because it's easy, but the guy is miserable jerk to everyone...don't know how he's still in business...

Re: Tube rolling with the Rocket?

Oh, didn't realize you were in Australia Mark. I can see where that would be a huge hassle. Hi-Test is old school with communication and payment for sure, that would be my one complaint. Just out of curiosity... What have been happiest with in your Rocket for rectifier and EL84's? Are you using the ...

I LOVE the J75-PVC's, for me they sit perfectly in between the M's and H's.

Re: Tube rolling with the Rocket?

5751's are definitely a cool tube, I used to run them in tweed Bandmaster or Bassman combos for really clean stuff with Strats & Teles and loved 'em! Can't remember if my faves were RCA's or GE's, one of those, don't have any left these days. Never tried the Sovtek 5751, but I like their 12AX7 LPS i...

Re: Tube rolling with the Rocket?

Hi Mark, I was cleaning up some email accounts this weekend and came across this, don't know how I missed your last thread post here with questions back in April... I love to compare notes and talk gear, so certainly wasn't ignoring you! I pre-apologize for getting SOOO long-winded when replying her...

Re: Tube rolling with the Rocket?

Hi Mark, I've never tried an India made Amperex, but FWIW, I do have 2 Canada made & 2 Holland(Herleen factory) made. Both types look exactly the same as yours internally...the only visual difference between my 2 pairs is with the seam on the top of the tubes...both types have top seams, but it's mu...
