Re: My take on Eric Johnson's Steel String Singer #005
Something I just noticed about the reverb circuit in this amp is the 120pf cap across the 220k reverb out to ground signal. I attached a pic here showing it. Capture.JPG Its not mentioned but I believe this preforms the same function as placing the .01uf cap across the Reverb Return pot as seen in ...

Re: Steel String Singer #005 build
Can confirm the Manning Filter setup is an improvement, in the sense that the steps are more predictable and useful.
ive often thought it would be cool to build this as an effect with buffered in/out so you could add it to any amp with an effects loop. Post preamp EQ in general is really powerful.

I really got into this guy awhile back. Very cool unconventional guitar work. Phil Collins like vibes:

Looks great! Is that rosewood or cocobolo on the front fascia for the headcab?

Re: Steel String Singer #005 build
Still running 6CA7. My only gripe is there is a very low, ambient hum when I turn it on. I think maybe OT orientation needs to change a little but nothing terrible. Someone mentioned an issue where the master volume didn't start doing something until you turned it up a bit and then it suddenly spran...

Re: Steel String Singer #005 build
Now that you mention it, I did a little demo video of my completed #005 yesterday and posted it on youtube:

There are lots of great clean and clean-ish tones to be had in this circuit. It's one of my favorite amps.

Re: Steel String Singer #005 build
Glad to see you take the plunge! I still play my #005 build quite regularly and it's one of my favorites. It feels a lot like a Marshall amp in many respects. very punchy

Re: What do you think of the Fender Jack White Pano Verb amp?
I build this tube harmonic tremolo/reverb/delay awhile back as a standalone. Was a lot of fun.

Around the 3 minute mark i dig into the delay bit.

Re: New amp break-in/ repair stress-test procedure?
My typical test is to run amp into dummy load, calculate max power (vRMS just before clipping squared, divided by load resistance) and then run a pink noise generator into amp. Reduce output to 1/3rd max power and let run for 6-8 hours. after this, tapping on the chassis with a rubber mallet is a go...

I like to use a 220K 2W resistor in parallel with a .1uFcap across my standby switches. It helps to soften the blow of immediate and direct B+.

Re: Another one for JoBo
Reverb topologies were a little different IIRC. Earlier ones had the Pre-OD reverb circuit....If i had to guess. this is probably what LG's amp is, because that seems to be where Dumble's amp head was at, at the time. Here's a side by side of Pre-Drive reverb (ODSR#13) and the later (ODSR#60) preamp...
