Re: Thinking about moving south
100% from experience... I'd take 110° F in GA over 95°F in southern Indiana. Humidity is much higher and stifling. I was in Los Alamos (high desert) last July and couldn't believe how nice it was. Went back to Evansville and felt like I walked into a wet quilt when I walked to the car from inside t...

Re: Carvin X100 Schematic Verification and Ultra Hot Cement Power Resistors
That's one ugly solder job. I did better when I was ten. Is that black wire what's holding the can cap in place???

The site is still running and is safe. I use Firefox to get to it, Brave won't let me. Oops, didn't see Greg's post. :) I met Enzo at his shop several years ago and bought several items he was getting rid of. He was a very smart guy with a great sense of humor. He helped me the most by encouraging l...

There sure is a lot of solder and flux spatter on the board. Yikes!

Re: 70s Fender 1x15 cabinet - looking for info
No brush paint marks, I will have to pull the back off (again) and see about overspray. I forgot to take pics of it before I put it back on. I replaced all of the existing screws with trim rings and don't have the actual rounded head philips screws yet. I guess it doesn't matter in the big picture, ...

Re: fender faceplate searching!
I just messaged Mojotone and Justin responded right away. No, they cannot do reproductions of Fender plates due to the copyright issues, even if we wanted to send them our old one. I need a Bassman 100 plate since mine is really beat up. I think this is a ridiculous situation because Fender doesn't ...

Re: 70s Fender 1x15 cabinet - looking for info
I'm 99.99% sure it's a Fender. I put those in because the previous owner put four, just four, nuts and hex head bolts in it.

70s Fender 1x15 cabinet - looking for info
This appears to be a 1970s cabinet based on the construction and visual feel but I can't find any others like it online. An image search didn't pull up the same, though I can find all sorts of 2x15 and Rumble combo amps that look similar. The previous owner butchered the input jack hole bad enough t...

Re: Seven Lessons from How Private Equity Wrecked Guitar Center
After checking out around 20 Fender American (and Mexican) Jazz basses in 2004 I found "the one" at GC. A Crimson Red Highway Series Jazz MiUSA. Fortunately back then there was an employee who I had talked to previously so he knew I wasn't just a tire-kicker. He spent quite a bit of time with me and...

Re: Mortality - Some Thoughts
Since 2016 I have had health issues that have forced me to think about this topic several times. It started with a blood clot which exposed (via CT) three abdominal aneurysms. I had those repaired and the clot was treated with medication, no more issues there other than having to take a blood thinne...

Re: 70's fender bassman 100 head recap?
I have one of these. I am putting Mallory 150s in place of the turd caps that came with it. The picofarad caps you mentioned are typically the old reliable disc caps. They rarely go bad. The 100K plate resistors have been prone to causing static noise in a lot of the Fenders I've worked on so I repl...

Re: Premium cigars
I wouldn't consider some of those to be mild unless you're picking specific blends out of the lines.
The ones I've come back to are the Oliva 2nds and Flor de Oliva natural, both in a toro or churchill size. They fit my taste to a T.
