Re: Express #2 -Sadie
Awesome looking headcab! What technique do you use to get the "burst" effect. Very, very cool! Dave O. Thanks! I am using two of StewMac's stains each mixed with grain alcohol and sprayed on with an airbrush. Then spraying shellac that started as flakes and dissolved in alcohol. Couple coats then a...

Re: Express #2 -Sadie
Great looking cab... are you going to build the amp the same way as the last one? Last time I was able to get 6 pairs of boards out of the garolite sheets I bought so I am definately going to use those. I'm open to other transformers but liked the MMs. It might be worth it just to have first hand e...

Express #2 -Sadie
Let week I put up pics of build #1, "Shelby". When I found the lumber for that build I was able to get 4 cabs out of it. So here's #2 early in the process. I'm doing a french polish on this one also and went with the British bulldog thing on the faceplate. What do you think?

Re: 1st Express Build "Shelby"
I have built enough with MM to get the preferred pricing which brought them closer to the retail price on some of the other options. My main other two contenders were the Heybors (but Mojo is out of the PT and when I called they said that they would not be ordering any more and took the PT off their...

Re: 1st Express Build "Shelby"
I forgot to mention that I bought shellac flakes and grain alcohol to french polish the cab.
I just recorded some sound clips and converted them to MP3. They are less than 10 MB but still not uploading for some reason. Any advice?

Re: 1st Express Build "Shelby"
This morning I "dressed" her wiring a little and that quieted a little. I had tube covers and decided to ditch them because they add a faint rattle. This thing is ALIVE... The biggest overall effect came from an hour or so of tube-swapping out of my "stash". I read it here a hundred times but someho...

1st Express Build "Shelby"
I have had a blast sourcing wood, reading and learning about TWs here on the forum and bringing this build to life. This was a slow and steady project as I had a cabinet maker use the lumber I found. He was able to get 4 cabs for me out of it so I bought 4 blank chassis (from seaside) and enought bl...

Re: Advice for getting the tolex on the corners just right?
That looks great! The most challenging job I've done so far was a complete inside and out retolex of a Fender Rhodes Stage piano and lid. There was every kind of corner/transition you could imagine. I don't use corner caps to hide a bad job but try and get every seam perfect. I got a lot of practice...

So I solved my problem today of back panels warping when using neoprene based tolex glue. It would always happen that no matter how quickly I clamped a panel, the plywood on fender style cabs begins to warp (in the wrong direction) right away. Anticipating that I decided to use a wet paper towel and...
