Re: Fuchs Jack Frost ?
Listening to the sound clips of Andys amp, I think it sounds absolutely excellent, very SLO inspired, the grit of an early SLO-100 but with the articulation and harmonic content of a late 70's Marshall. The bottom end is tight without sounding constipated. Good on ya mate and best of luck with your...

Avoid them.
I tried a few preamps (for simplicity's sake), using the three section TV tubes. I thought it might be fun to make a very simple singled ended amp with a 6K11 and say an EL-34 or something cool. Not a good idea IMHO. Usually they are noisy, don't sound good, and hum if you put a cathode follower in ...

Relax fellas
:?: What's not to understand? Andy worked with Frost and developed a more modern high gain amp to compliment his amp line. Are you asserting that Frost isn't a good player? I haven't heard him, so I don't know. Dave We're exploring some new directions, and Jack is a New Jersey based player who appr...

Here's a thought:
Let's not forget that the cathode is another signal input into the tube. It's possible that you could be getting some kind of feedback from the output of the power amp, or another circuit as well. Just a thought.... ![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

not to mention
... the solid state taps were good for both bias and relay power. I'd caution you on using the same taps for bias and relays. Relays are noisy and the bias goes directly into the grids of the power tubes so noise gets transmitted easily. Varying relay current equals varying bias current, not good. ...

Maybe a "mini fest" (invite little guys like Lerner, Vern Troyer, Adam Stark,Pat Martino Jimmy Bruno etc...).
Anyway, keep me posted. If the schedule and weather permit, I'd love to get together.

Train-45
Basic circuit is the Express with our own tweaks: A PC board for the audio and power supply, all tubes, jacks, switches and controls are chassis mounted. It has DC preamp tube filaments and a DC fan for low noise and no hum. Separate bias pots for each power tube, Heyboer built/Fischer designed tran...

Hmmmm.
Doh, -Andy- Fuchs. Just haven't seen a white one before (got Fuchs myself, but in black and snakeskin ;)). Wish I could tell ya who I made that white/vox cloth rig for, but you'll find out someday, eventually, when it surfaces again. Actually, Vox has basically told all amp makers to stop using the...

Considering the number of apparent "Marshallisms" in the schematic, it seems quite appropriate. And to think, I get beat up for"too many knobs".....

It depends on your viewpoint........
Well if you look cross-eyed through rose colored glasses you can see the lineage. But those values. Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet that thing has got to be harsh. And the bias circuit is downright scary! The selection of Plate and cathode values are very "unique". Ok, whose going to step up and build tha...

My take on it
I posted this on the gear page as well: The ampfest was a blast. The only observation for future fests would be better organization . There should have been a better idea of what was coming and how best to set it up for fair and equal comparisons. This is all stuff that fest organizers learn from do...

Ruby
The Ruby "effects loop" is the return amp from a Dumble loop (with nfb loop), with a master volume after it. It is switched in and out of the circuit with the front panel switch. The "send" portion of the loop is passive, coming off the output of the third gain stage. Actually doesn't sound half bad...

Not "one of us"...
That's a Mystic. He's an elusive builder in Norway or someplace near there, who built an amp or two a year, and got a pretty good price for them. He cloned Trainwrecks, and Dumbles pretty regularly. I understand he no longer makes amps.

No
I would not suggest that plate/cathode cap. it;s for frequency contouring, and not RF, and would wipe out alot of the high end....
