Re: DIY amp head switcher
I’m glad that worked for you. Something like that was doable for me but I still worry too much about it being switched on the fly or by someone unfamiliar with it or maybe without the owner knowing, or by accident in a dark stage/studio, etc. you just never know. In my case the I believe the custome...

Re: DIY amp head switcher
Thanks for the comments guys. Yes my next questions were going to be in regards to switching speeds because I was seeing comments elsewhere about microprocessors being used to perform the switching to prevent damage to the amp but I didn’t know how critical this could be. Anything involving microcon...

Re: DIY amp head switcher
I take it the negative speaker output should not be a common ground between all amplifiers? To avoid ground loops.

DIY amp head switcher
Hello everybody, I have a customer asking me to make him an amp switcher box to switch between four different amplifiers and one speaker cabinet. I did a search for this and not much came up, how feasible is this? My initial sketch is to have four DPDT relays, selected via 4-position rotary switch, ...

Re: Fender 600 champion reissue complete rebuild
Hey Mikante, I built a 1 transistor fuzz. My level of expertise. I ran it into a 600 Champ. Was reminiscing about Hendrix as I played. But was interrupted by a bad smell. Smoked the Champ. R 15 and 16 burnt, I replaced with what I had watts? and they cooked immediately. 6V6 is cooked too. I'd love ...

TW Express in Hammond organ amp conversion
As the title says.
I’m bored and I have a Hammond AO-29 chassis with transformers here and nothing else to do with it so I thought I would try my hand at a Trainwreck Express clone in it. Wish me luck!

Re: 5E3 - First build, first dud
Thanks for the many replies so far. Let me respond to all of the above in one post. Soldering has proven somewhat of a challenge. I'm used to soldering PCB's, but this was a totally different ball game. In my PCB world I rarely go over 300 degrees. I cranked my iron up to 400 for this project, whic...

Re: Bassman Ten in for service
I suspect they standardized the cap board and found it was cheaper to put it on all them and then cut it off for models that didn't use it. It would have been used for vibrato on an amp like the Super Reverb. That’s actually a pretty logical theory given Fender’s affinity for assembly line-type inn...

Re: Bassman Ten in for service
Fender switched to that wire rap from what I guess was the more expensive foil rap shielding they use to build with. We’re not talking about the white wire wrapped around those other wires as some kind of shield, we’re talking about this plastic wire: https://i.imgur.com/nKf1odK.jpeg If you search ...

Re: Bassman Ten in for service
I got a Bassman 10 in today for service, and am happy to see your photo: https://i.imgur.com/qnOF3RD.jpg Mine also has the clipped white wire exiting the grommet from the doghouse in the center of your photo. Thanks for the confirmation! I immediately remembered this wire upon reading your reply, v...

Re: Hammomd 1750EP correct fit for 5E3 chassis?
I used the 1750EP to build my own 5E3 as well and had to drill another mounting hole in the chassis to make it work. I too was disappointed it wasn’t an exact drop-in fit but otherwise it seems to be the correct OT for this amp. My 5E3 chassis is either from Mojotone or Antique Electronics Supply, I...

Re: 0.003uf or 0.0033uf?
That extra 3 is probably just a typo.
Usually people would be asking “.003 vs .0003” (big difference) not “.003 vs .0033” (no difference).

Re: The Lost Art of Cable Lacing
I have some vintage Tektronix oscilloscopes that look amazing inside with all the point-to-point wiring and cable lacing. A lot of labor for sure.
