Re: Broad Tweed Question
The Bassman 5F6A is known for its overdrive tone. Mine is the best sounding amp I've ever played. Have you considered a Deluxe Micro practice amp with a true Class A parallel dual triode power amp? https://robrobinette.com/Deluxe_Micro.htm Or Bassman Micro with a self-split push-pull power amp? http...

Re: Broad Tweed Question
With the 5E3 circuit a PRE phase inverter master volume works fine because the cathodyne phase inverter doesn't add gain. Here's a simple 5E3 MV that works great: https://robrobinette.com/5e3_Modifications.htm#Add_Master_Volume [img:600:1188]https://robrobinette.com/images/Guitar/5E3P_Build/5e3_Pre_...

Yes, you are correct on the output transformer wires. I'll try to take a look at your layout tomorrow.

Re: Thinking ahead. Reverb question.
The "dwell mod" that I've read about in the past. The one that involves replacing the 1M resistor on the first reverb tube with a pot, that's essentially implementing a send control, then? If you mean replacing the PR's reverb driver tube's 1m gridleak with a 1m pot then yes, that would be equivale...

Re: 5F6A-M Bassman Micro
Mouser ships quick. I'm in Tennessee and I usually get stuff in two days too. I'm looking forward to your build, please post pics and status updates.

Re: Thinking ahead. Reverb question.
The JM is getting a lower level signal after only one preamp stage and after the tone stack. It makes up for that by adding two more gain stages to the reverb circuit--it's a meaty reverb. The Princeton Reverb gets a higher level signal after: preamp - tone stack - preamp. Mixing and matching will p...

Re: 6G3 Post PIMV
You can also just twist the two MV wires together since they're 180 out of phase it works the same way as twisting the heater wires to reduce rf transmission.

Re: How the 5E3 Deluxe Amp Works
Showing a proper ground on the power cord connection makes sense for safety. Moving the fuse to the hot side of the switch, instead of on the original neutral, would also make sense for the same reason. Yes, I agree and I'll get around to editing the Fender schematic to reflect that one of these da...

How the 5E3 Deluxe Amp Works
I finally got around to completing the How the 5E3 Deluxe Amp Works webpage. With the number of 5E3 kits being sold I thought it might help some newbies understand what the amp is doing. I try to detail how the amp functions and how changing component values will affect the amp's voice. If you're in...

Re: 6G3 Post PIMV
Yes, that's a Trainwreck Type 3 Master Volume and it's what I put in my 5F6A Bassman and it works great. It mixes the two phase inverter output signals together which kills the signal, like mixing matter and anti-matter. Sort of. [img:300:630]https://robrobinette.com/images/Guitar/Bassman/Bass...

Re: Tweaking a Fender AA964
Should I expect that this approach to the tone stack by pass will sound pretty much the same as the approach I took, or will there be different tonal characteristics? If the new cap and tone stack are paralleled during the tone cut then there might be a tonal difference. If the tone stack is actual...

Re: Tweaking a Fender AA964
Another way to bypass the tone stack is to disconnect the bass pot from the 6.8k resistor. This removes the tone stack's ground so the stack "disappears" from the preamp circuit. One way to kill some preamp gain would be to put the second half 7025's cathode bypass cap on a switch. This would add so...

Re: 5F6A-M Bassman Micro
Rob have you or anyone else built one of these yet? No, not yet. I have all the parts on hand and need to drill turret board as my next step. I did get my 5F6A head amp completed and it sounds unbelievably sweet. The Bassman Micro is next but I'm pretty busy this time of year so not sure when I'll ...

Re: 5F6A-M Bassman Micro
I'm going to use a tube rectifier, but have never used the EZ81. Is there any pro/con to using the EZ81 versus a 5Y3? The power transformer I plan to use has a 5v 2a tap for filament voltage for the 5Y3. Also, what is your opinion about the sound difference in this amp when using the 4H choke versu...

Re: Multitape OT
Thanks Martin, now it all makes sense.
So to make sure I got it right, when moving from 2 to 4 ohms the factor is 1.41, 2 to 8 ohms the factor is 2, and 2 to 16 ohms 2.83.
