Re: Cathode follower question
I want to try a cathode follower for some nice compression. However, I’m aiming for two 6SL7’s for the preamp, and I’d like a cold clipper as one of those four stages. Can the gain stage part of the cathode follower circuit be a cold clipper? Why is this stage often set to 820R? The gain stage that...

Re: SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
I built it exactly as your drawing other than the change from a 1M master volume to the 100K, i didnt have an appropriate 100k pot on hand, so i left the 1M in just to see if it worked. It did totally work! A 1M pot will work in place of the 100k-A pot in Loop #3, but it will shear some high freque...

Re: SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
The send pot kind of works like a MV to an extent, it wont bring the entire amps level any higher than the actual MV is set but if you turn it down it does cut almost all of the volume. First of all, I am referring to Loop #3 above. The Send Level pot doesn't affect the volume of the amp UNLESS the...

Re: LARGE 6V6??
G'day.... Has anyone ever seen 6V6's that are this tall (see pic)....? The amp's maker, but not the previous owner, said the amp performed well with them, & they could be Chinese oddballs.... They're totally unmarked, and the one on the far right, or on top, is my standard sized Tung-Sol 6V6.... ma...

Re: SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
Also forgot to add, the passive loop does work if placed after the MV. I ran some time based effects and It sounds pretty good. I also ran the preamp out into my Boogie MkV25 and it also sounded pretty good although I have a real problem with knowing something could be better, which is one of the m...

Re: SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
What i was thinking was that the ideal requirements for an effects loop probably were different than that for the slave jacks if thats not the case than there is probably no need for them but im still not 100% sure if that is the case or not. My effects loop above can function as either an effects ...

Yes.Fictitiousfreedom wrote: ↑Fri Aug 04, 2023 9:17 pm Its still safe to use a passive loop as a slave out/in right, Just not ideal as far as level and impedance is concerned?

Re: SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
[quote=Fictitiousfreedom post_id=455044 time=1691019971 user_id=26418 Then we have the slave out/in, it seems you wouldn't need a buffer or anything specifically active because its already the correct level leaving the amp, am i right in this assumption? I have no idea and its a little tough to find...

Re: SLO ef80 to 40 watt with loop
Do you want a transparent loop or a loop that plays a part in the sound of the amp like the SLO 100?

Re: replace output transfomer question
ok thanks thats how i have them hooked up. if its not too complicated to explain just wondering what happens if they are swapped? If you swap the BRN and BLU wires, then you get positive feedback instead of negative feedback. Bassman 100 NFB Arrows.png The red arrows show the phase of the audio sig...

Re: replace output transfomer question
It matters. BRN goes to V4 + V5. BLU goes to V6 + V7.BonesMachine wrote: ↑Mon Jun 26, 2023 9:05 pm so the ot primary blue and brown are the same thing correct and doesnt matter which one goes to what tube socket?

Re: replace output transfomer question
White is by the spec sheet said to be hot . If you already have black as hot and the jack is bolted to the chassis it can take a ton of heat to swap the wires there if you find that the amp is hollowing. In that case just swap the blue and the brown wires since to the rest of the amp circuit and th...

Re: replace output transfomer question
i have a very novice question. i am replacing an output transformer on a 70's fender bassman amp. i have a new hammond 1750w replacement. it has secondary black (com) and white wires. i am not sure which wire hooks up to the positive of the speaker output jack on the amp black or white? any help ap...
