Re: Schematic drawing program

If you see any shapes you like on a diagram, just drag them into a blank stencil. As for the wiring connections, I just use the line tool and draw them in. No magic, just tedium. Cool, Thanks. On the lines, I was hoping they were connected so when I move things around, they re-route. For tha...

Re: Schematic drawing program

With a program like Eagle you can export your board to DXF and turn it into 3D with Rhino3D.

Or if you want to do it the pro way, use Solidworks and circuitworks but we are way past hobby stuff

Re: Screen grid resistors - do they have to be 5W

I'd stick with those values, you can get them from Mouser you know as well as the 1ohm 1% 3W Greetings Lads: I'm trying to imagine a scenario where you would need a 3 watt 1 ohm resistor at the cathode ground. Let's see. We bias a pair of 6L6s at what, maybe 55-60ma per tube? This should be at a bi...

Re: Screen grid resistors - do they have to be 5W

I'm about to put things together, and discovered that I don't have any 1K 5W resistors for the screen grids. Do they have to be 5W, or will 3 do? I might have some 3W, but I don't want to use them if 5W is really needed. Also, the 1ohm resistors I plan to use for the cathodes on the output tubes ( ...

From one newbie to another I think....
You need to have more than one post before you ask such a request
Besides there is no reason to use email, stuff can be pm'd

Re: Carmen Ghia schematic/layout?

true he doesn't say that "some of the most original designs" are his original designs, but if it's on your website promoting your amp i certainly think it's implied and so would the prospective buyer of the amp. as i posted before, the power amp is directly lifted from the ao-35 Is the ao-35 a Hamm...

Re: rf noise

Thanks for the tips Drz400, This has been a very frustrating problem. It's only recently that is has been an issue, and only with the amps I've built. My fleet of z's are whisper quiet for the most part, but my 18 watt clone-ma-bobs have been the issue. As you say, the band aids have cured 99% of i...

Re: Carmen Ghia schematic/layout?

Not to stir up flames here, but something in the previous posts confuses me. If guys like Z openly admit that they tweaked an existing design, why are they protective of the circuitry? If one believes that it is ok to utilize a circuit that was invented some time ago and is in public domain, why wo...

Re: Schematic drawing program

I just downloaded Tinycad, but I haven't tried it yet. The price is right. :D TinyCAD is quite easy to work with. One annoying thing though - it doesn't have switching jacks in the library. EAGLE is hopeless to work with, IMHO. You have to specify the exact component specs in the schematic. For exa...

Re: What would cause heater voltage to rise?

That's fine. Plus or minus 10% is the general rule. I wouldn't be concerned until it got to 6.9V or higher. Sweet. Thanks. People on other boards seem to think line voltage is the suspect....could be...maybe I had the air conditioning on when I measured the first time...who knows... Many times your...

Re: rf noise

Thanks for the extra tips. I re-wired the grounding, and checked all the solder joints throughout the entire amp. It's almost gone, except when the volume knob on the guitar is rolled all the way down. I'll give the caps a try. I've seen 500pf caps from plate to cathode in a few amps. Is this also ...

Re: Carmen Ghia schematic/layout?

(longtime lurker, great forum!) You can buy a KArmin Ghia for $1000 It hardly seems worth the effort to make one. But since the power section is from a Hammond and is very unusual and the person making one for themselves is probbaly never going to sell it but use it for their own enjoyment I dont se...
