Observations about wire as a result of debugging
A little background (there is a question at the end): I built a TWEX clone last winter using ApexJr's solid core/teflon coated wire. I really liked working with this wire due due how well it stays put. So, I decided to rewire my DIY Marshall 1987 (50W). This amp had EH EL34 tubes. It seemed to worke...

Re: My Dumb-oogie project - opinions?
FWIW I have made a conversion to dumble circuit of a SOB mesa and have to say that the output transformer was excellent and a good part in the incredible dynamic capability of the amp. At least better than the usual fender bassman iron for sure. Again, if you have a SOB on hand, you' ll find that t...

Re: My Dumb-oogie project - opinions?
OK, I just heard the lead clip here: http://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2684 That's way better than the MkIII lead channel. So that makes things much easier. I can do an ODS/HRM and a 2 tube reverb without adding any more tubes. I'll just have to tweak the PSU a bit to get the correct voltag...

Re: My Dumb-oogie project - opinions?
Be careful that the PT can supply the heater current required. BTW, Mesa usually uses a very similar single tube reverb, why not stick to that. For the effects loop why not use an SS loop? Somewhere I saw a post where there's one available on a single board, can't remember where though. The MkIII h...

Re: My Dumb-oogie project - opinions?
Thanks. I am gutting the amp. I did a number of mods using the existing PCB and decided that it was not getting to where I wanted it. So, I'm saving the old PCBs and doing a mostly scratch build using DIY turret boards. I would sell it, but I like the cabinet and speaker (Eminence Delta Pro 12 LF). ...

My Dumb-oogie project - opinions?
Hi all, A while back on the TW forum, I had this discussion: http://ampgarage.com/forum/posting.php?mode=topicreview&t=2120 concerning building an ODS into a Mesa/Boogie MkIII. Anyway, having finally decided that I wanted to build a better amp in my Mesa Boogie MkIII chassis, I thought I would seek ...

TW-inspired "Marshall" 1987 layout/build complete
Greetings all. I posted this over on the Metroamp/50W forum, but I thought that the many excellent amp builders at ampgarage would appreciate this. After building a TW Express clone over the Winter, I was inspired to design a new layout for a 1987. My original version with the standard Marshall layo...

Of course L x W = 9" x 2" would fit that Hammond box exactly.

Does anybody know a source for heat sinks similar to these?
Heat sinks, yet to label the controls. right side is bed room level, I need to round the corners on the heat sinks. they are from an old amp that died. Does anybody know a source for heat sinks similar to these? I found a place in New Zealand, but a source in the USA would be better. http://www.gum...

Any heat sink recommendations?
I haven't built mine yet, but it seems that a heat sink would be a good idea. Maybe a fan as well. My HotPlate has both. Anyway, I looked in the Mouser catalogue a bit and didn't really find any large heat sinks. The chassis is 9x5x2, so the heat sink could be up to 9x2. Also, Lorlin switches are re...

Re: teflon wire
I got a bunch of 20AGW solid core from ApexJr. 18AGW would be nice for filaments. As for shielded wire, I have been rolling my own. I got some coax with alum braid and foil shield (foil shield was suggested by Kevin O'Conner). I used a piece of wire to connect to the shield by bending the end throug...

Re: boogie express
Or you could call it a Dum/Ogie I like that a lot. Do I have your permission to use it? Go for it! 8) Or you can call it a Dugie Or Dumbgie If I go the Dumble route, I'll post on that forum. I can definitely improve on what I have now. I can use the iron and I have a nice Eminence Delta Pro 12LF sp...

Re: boogie express
I've had a Mk III since the last 80's. I don't play it much though. If I sell it, I won't get enough for it. So I guess I'll keep it until I die. Therefore, I have been heavily tweaking it. I have considered building a point to point version. Maybe I should build a Dumble in the chassis? Dumble/Boo...

Why can the Express use 6V6 tubes at high plate voltage?
Since the power tube plate voltage on the Express is ~400VDC, why can you use 6V6 tubes? None of the data sheets I have read have a maximum plate voltage near that. I am trying a pair of NOS GE 6V6GTA tubes and they seem to work. They do get some blue (gassy?) around the plates when pushed hard. I'm...
