Re: Known Problems with the Site

Lauri, That assumes they've setup the site to even allow this. Since it's shared, there may be 100 different sites on the same server. They may or may not even allow htaccess settings at the site level. I've not spent a ton of time digging into this mainly because I already have volunteered a ton of...

Re: Known Problems with the Site

If they're doing what I think, all they need is ANY page and the login page is one of them. They can just constantly load the login page and it will slow down the site and cause issues. Due to the fact that the hosting provider doesn't seem to be doing anything proactive to catch/stop this it just ...

Re: Known Problems with the Site

Hello Phil -- One of the newer hosting service infestations are automated "content" harvesters collecting training data for feeding LLM training. Like the search scanners of old but people tell me there are many more active, they less well behaved, and making more frequent sweeps. If this is indeed...

Re: Known Problems with the Site

Oh I hadn't noticed that, may be the cause? At any rate, though, it's still happening to me today. Maybe someone performing a form of DDoS? I can barely get pages to load at this point.

Re: Known Problems with the Site

Looks like the site right now is having major issues with either the hosting provider under a DDOS attack or their servers are just having a really hard time handling traffic, I keep getting throttled when I try to load pages.

Re: Error 429 Too many requests

Sorry just found this while cleaning up a user. I would think this is more likely a problem with the hosting provider, they're pretty horrible. I doubt sluckey is suddenly posting more than he ever has in the past :) I honestly don't have a ton of time to look into logs etc. I try to do the bare min...

Re: Richter's not coming down for breakfast

FYI I figured I'd post here, Kurtus asked that I delete his account and all posts. It's been done.

I asked xtian and he felt his posts were a landmine of bad information for users and should likely be removed to clear up any risk there. I'll delete the other threads entirely as well.

Re: possible problems with the hosting provider or database

Ahh gotcha, also if you see accounts that are older and temporarily deactivated, it's because they updated something like their email address... usually I just reactivate the account at that point.
Whew I was starting to think something was really going off on the site.

possible problems with the hosting provider or database

All, I've been getting quite a few people telling me they registered and can't login days later. I know Xtian gets those pretty quickly and there are rarely any there, but the username they say they registered with doesn't exist. I also just had someone say they updated their email address to a new ...

Re: Is it my devices or is this site behaving strangely?

I'm the site admin, I'm a Linux SRE that does this for my job. The problems are due to the fact that the site is on shared hosting. I'm assuming that they're likely due to the hosting provider making some changes causing issues/outages. The domain owner has control over the domain and pays for the s...

Re: Trouble getting into the forum

It's a shared server, I cannot reboot it. It runs linux, which about 99.99999% does not need a reboot to fix odd behavior unlike windows, but I also cannot reboot it, it's one of those setups where maybe 5 or 6 different domains/services are hosted on the same server.

Re: Trouble getting into the forum

Let me know if things seem better, I purged the forums internal cache as well to see if maybe it's storing some garbage in there.

Re: Trouble getting into the forum

I've done nothing to 'fix' it sometimes the hosting provider does 'upgrades' to the underlying infra and started seeing a ton of errors and realized they broke something and fixed it without us touching it. I have given Xtian admin and moderator status, I think, but the board software is a landmine ...
