Re: New ghost notes, plexi
Can you record a phone clip of this ghosting? Sometimes people call different noises/oddities different things. One person's ghosting might just be another person's "nothing's wrong". I also notice this amp is running the PT HT secondaries (center tapped) to a tube rectifier and then to a solid stat...

Re: New ghost notes, plexi
Starting with a "thanks for the help people"! I'll swap tubes tomorrow. Starting with the phase inverter. Ghosting is absent when the master volume is turned down 9pm-2pm. The amp actually sounds great with the master at 2pm lead channel at 10pm , has a little grit on the clean tone though and comp...

Dagnall C1998 vs C2668 vs C2373
How can one identify/differentiate these from each other, assuming the transformers are not labeled?
C1998 has self leads? That's easy enough to spot via the colored cloth insulation. But what about the other two?

Re: What's Going On With This Preamp?
Peavey VTX compression circuit. It's diode clipping in it's mildest form. Those will be 20v Zeners. I don't think that's correct. They are not set up like diode clipping (the amp also has a Jose mod, which is diode clipping, later on down the line). This is a make-shift noise gate someone added aft...

Re: What's Going On With This Preamp?
Actually, seems like it's a make-shift noise gate?

What's Going On With This Preamp?
I have a modded 100-watt Marshall here that sounds pretty wicked. It has five tube gain stages and some other cool features, like switchable cathode on one of the stages. I understand most of it, but there's something puzzling going on with the gain control. It has a bunch of resistors, caps, and di...

Re: Ceriatone Chupacabra's "Pussy Trim" control on JMP50?
I've wondered the same thing. I added one to a 18 watt tmb , and of course, I found it didn't work haha. Let us know if you.clip one in ! It's a useless control. As stated above, all it is, is a pot in place of the 470k mixer. It simply reduces input signal to the next stage. Might as well just use...

Re: Bogner Helios: RF Radio Noise
I tried various grid stopper values and settled on 5K7. The lower I went, the more the original sound/feel of the amp returned (good thing). 33K affected the amp's sound too much. RF and radio noise came back at 1K2. 2K7 was better, but still a slight bit of radio when amp is cranked. So I went up t...

Re: Bogner Helios: RF Radio Noise
I decided to just install a grid stopper and pretend like there's no grounding issue lol. 27K. That did the trick. Dead quiet. But yeah... it did affect the sound/feel of the amp. Kinda surprised because the math says with a 27K grid stopper, low pass filter has a cut-off of -3dB at about 25kHz, whi...

Re: Bogner Helios: RF Radio Noise
That's what I was getting at, but I didn't want to make an assumption on the basis of something I can't see. I think I'd want to ground the shield, too. As for the lack of a grid stopper, I think you know that it is typically the 68K or 33K mounted at the jack. Assuming it's not there, I'd want to ...

Re: Bogner Helios: RF Radio Noise
in the first picture, the one where the black wire on the terminal strip is labeled "not grounded," where does that black wire go at the other end? Where does the other wire (pin 2 of the socket) go? Maybe you said, but I can't get it from what you wrote. That's the input grid of the first stage. T...

Bogner Helios: RF Radio Noise
I recently got a Bogner Helios 50. I like it. But there's a good bit of RF/radio noise. The amp is really two different amps in one. "Plex" input and "Hot" input are two different "amps". Not the traditional hi/lo jacks. Plex input bypasses V1. Plex input = no noise. Hot input = tons of noise: hum, ...

Re: Questions/Build Log: Soldano SLO 100 Clone
I used O'Netics in my SLO Clone and they were 100% quiet. Just a thought... did you sand off the powder coating of the chassis at all the necessary places? All of the pot mounting holes, some of the switches, jacks, ground point connections, etc. It could be a grounding issue if you did not. Also, t...

How are those all wired up? Cap in series or parallel?
