Re: Ultraphonix adventure
Found a way to tame the output in adding a d-lator in between. Works pretty well ! I have tried a different EQ on the dirt side and 3'o clock for treble and mid while bass is almost off seems to do the trick. I get the anger without the flab of the bottom end. It remains defined and not too compress...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
Again thanks for all the help and kind words. This quest for tone is enabled by guys like you, sharing without limit what you have documented, experienced. I am very grateful to this community! Agreed, the Tweedle Dee is also the amp I have played most. Second is ODS between 183 and 102 that has a f...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
Found the issue, bias was too cold. Need to swap resistors but in the meantime alligator clip is more than enough to play the beast and bias it to 40mA with 422V plate voltage I change the value of the mid pot for a 100k, I love the tweedier clean tones, feels like the amp is right there in your fac...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
I tried the preamp out into another amp cause the clean was bugging me. It is outstanding, very close to the john Mayer amp feel and no issue with the overdrive, channel, so something is happening down the line. Will check voltages again, but nothing seemed of.

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
It's alive and kicking! I have some oscillation going on in the background, could be because of crapy tubes, used whatever was around to test the amp. OD feels like a Marshall, and EQ responds quite well. Clean has not much headroom with humbuckers. Past 9o clock and the preamp starts to overdrive. ...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
After tweaking like crazy all morning, adding RC elements, separating decoupling the tube halves, changng pot, raising the wires in the air.. all what should stop osc - nothing. V1a stopping with LF osc only when i disconnect V1b! Now im quitting , mazbe i ll rebuild all, but at the end i was chang...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
A quick update on the build, slowly getting there, as I am missing a few resistors and caps. That feeling when you realize you're missing one diode, the day after placing your order at mouser! The boards are almost populated, planning on testing a few different coupling caps in the overdrive section...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
If only building clean channel make that 470k mixer into a splitter with a second 470k to ground. IMG_8246.jpeg Quick question here, before I solder thing on my eyelet board: From what I read, 220k mixing resistor are here to tame the signal a bit and avoid channel interaction (these are out of pha...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
Hey Bepone,Thanks ! I was assuming Aaron's schematic had a potential mistake, but this question remains : do you have : V1B plate=> 470k =>.02uf=> V2A and 470k to ground ? looks like a low Pass RC filter into V2A with a grid leak resistor ? (Never seen before, but I don't know much...) or V1B plate ...

I am going in! 16993279505335954937282762255603.jpg 100 watts is going to be loud!! Will require a Master Volume. Checked some voltages Unloaded B+ is 450V And filaments 6.9 V What choke would you recommend? Want to switch from clean to mean with relays ala Dumble. Do I need to think of cascading? ...

Re: Ultraphonix adventure
Hey Bepone,
I will build a new board for the preamp and power amp.
Not a fan of the leaky waxed cardboard.
may re-use components that did not drift too much to keep some of the mojo.
I want to add a mid control as well.
Thanks for your valuable input!
