Re: RE: Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

The KT series are quite similar in design & character to venerable 6L6, and 6550 too. Gather others regularly enlist some of them in Dumble designs --- Dumble even, as stories go. Personally not so Dumble familiar. Have a first, a ODS derived project, planned for the fall. Look forward to that. Pas...

Re: RE: Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

500V DC works. Just somewhat higher than convention. May require a larger resistance at one or more dropping string nodes, starting with the first below the choke. Divider in the bias supply could need changes to get the trimmer correctly in range. There is lots of heater current (6A), so the flexi...

Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

Is that including the expected drop once the tubes are in? It seems to me at least with one (TAD) 6L6GC I see 500VDC as a max, and if you add in the drop the tubes will provide, it should be in range no? Loaded, unloaded expect 550V or so. Just to be sure I am following you, are you saying that the...

Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

See 1650HA OPT. Curious regarding the power transformer. 1650HA is the actual tranny used on this build. Yep. Can't read the tag on the power transformer however... It seems to be a Hammond 274 BX. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170826/b870f43507585c21051592fbec5f042c.jpg Fred, learning everyda...

Re: RE: Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

You need a new chassis and built it right. Where do you live? Mark, I live in Montreal Canada. Seaside is still in operation. Terry could provide a clean fresh-start chassis. See 1650HA OPT. Curious regarding the power transformer. Best .. Ian 1650HA is the actual tranny used on this build. https:/...

Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

@Ian thanks for the reference I will definitely call them.

@Mark I think I can get along with Martin's option, but I really appreciate the gesture.

@Dorrissant thanks for the support!

Re: RE: Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

You can put a 3k3 across the outer lugs of the 5k and get 1.99k, or put 1k in series with 1k pot. A linear pot will have most of the tonal variation in the upper half anyway, so 1k plus 1k in series would be better for spreading the effect over the whole rotation. Thanks Martin, much appreciated! Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

I could not get my hands on a 2K pot for the presence knob. I have a 1K and a 5K pot. I thought about using a resistor on the 1K pot to match the 2K requirement but then I will always have at least 1K resistance engaged in the circuit. Is there a way to trick it differently? Should I use the 1K or 5...

Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

Hi ChopSauce, I have no clue why the builder of the amp has done thing in the opposite way. I thought about re-doing the whole chassis. The problem is the wiring for all the tubes, power supply and power rectification. I thought I would not touch the things that seems to work properly. So in order t...

Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

Hi guys, I must say working on this project is challenging, and I try to live this as a labor of love. I do my best to keep going and not be discouraged by all the things that need to be done before I can fire this amp back again. I have almost finished the main board. I have trouble attaching the p...

Re: Joey Landreth-Dumble

I think that is a compliment well diserved Marcus! We may also remember that Mr Dumble voices the amp for each player. Subtle nuances that make a difference for each player. I am glad to hear and read that the holly grail of tone is reachable. It inspires me in my project to keep going at my own pac...

Re: HRM needs some Lovin'

A little update of my whereabouts: -Cut off the fiber board and removed the original layout board. -sanded all the edges and make sure I did not damage anything in the meantime. Next step : recycling some of the old components for the new layout board . https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170712/3b25...
