Re: A sin against nature?

I'll play contrarian opinion here: The market only bears so much. Only so many dads reliving the good old days are going to buy so many Les Paul's, Teles and Strats. These guitars are targeted at a different audience. MI industry is something like a 12 Billion dollar market. And shrinking in overall...

Re: PPIMV Asymmetric Bright Cap

With couple caps in and out, does that mean you have to insert the bias circuit after the coupling caps coming out?

Re: Dumble Serial number 006X OD50WX

That wima cap looks like it came later. Notice the solder joints on it and the others.

If that amps a fake, I'd say it's a pretty good one.

Re: Ultra Phonix mod for Bandmaster

I'd say not really. All the Dumble ideas are pretty much culminated in the ODS/SSS. Seems like everything else he tweaked was just taking ideas from those amps and seasoning to taste. Or would it be the other way around? I'd reckon the mods came first, then coalesced into the amps. It's semantics at...

Carrot Top? Is that a joke or are there as yet undiscovered names for mods?

Re: Dumble Tweed Vibrolux

Lots of little things there that look correct. The yellow Teflon looking lead wire, color markings on some of those resistors look similar to what he's used. Sprague atoms, trimmer resistor in the corner. Lots of anecdotal things seem correct at first look. Or could be a really well done fake. Eithe...

Re: Ultra Phonix mod for Bandmaster

Taylor,

Can you verify that the gain voicing is different from "La Tostada" ?

I've done the La Tostada a few times. Great rock tones from whats essentially a JCM800 based preamp.

Taylor,

Was the gain voicing in the bass channel?

Re: Ultra Phonix mod for Bandmaster

It doesn't seem to be one consistent mod. There's supposedly ones with switchable boost functions and other features.

Re: Ultra Phonix mod for Bandmaster

FWIW, I've done the BM clean preamp into BM PI in an old vibrolux reverb shell. It does sound great (extra midrange also makes for a very fine pedal steel amp) but without a master volume it was ear splittingly loud at anything above 3 on the volume. Chalk that up to the increased gain on the BM cle...

Re: Ultra Phonix mod for Bandmaster

FWIW, there is lots of speculation and conjecture surrounding the UP mods because there doesn't seem to be "one set" of mods. There are UP mods for Bassman and Marshall amps. And the ones that have had gut shots posted show lots of little differences. The only real definitive thing is they all seems...

Re: Ultra Phonix mod for Bandmaster

Have you tried the search function? Comment is not intended to be snarky at all, but searching Ultraphonix in the Dumble discussion subsection should easily net a few threads on the subject.

Re: Low Plate 2nd Gen vs. Low Plate Classic

"Classic" denotes what EQ circuit the amp has. "2nd Gen" denotes what era of amp it is. Dumble EQs generally fall into the "Pre-Classic/Classic/Skyliner" order chronologically with exceptions (HRM, Bluesmaster) If IIRC, 2nd Gen falls into the "Pre-Classic" EQ category. The difference between this an...
