Re: A quick clip of my TWreck clone
Elcabong, The Heyboers are doing well. It didn't take much to get it in bias and they have an aggressive edge that makes it sound mean and growling. I'd be willing to bet that it has a bit more gain than most JTM45s. If I have a chance I'll post a sound file. It is quickly becoming one of my favite ...

Re: A quick clip of my TWreck clone
Just a quick report: I switched over my Trainwreck to JTM45-type specs and it just plain ROCKS! It's still got a nice amount of gain but not over the top. I LOVE KT66 tubes! They are very creamy. Even with a PPIV master, the thing just plain rocks. I don't want to derail all the people having luck w...

Re: A quick clip of my TWreck clone
Higain, The two things I noticed the most were: 1) The sound of it was fatiguing to my ears after a half-an-hour. I wanted to turn it off because my ears were ringing more then usual and I'd have a headache. 2) I'd play it and think it sounded good and then I'd A/B with my Marshall Plexi and be diss...

Re: A quick clip of my TWreck clone
Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Yes, it's true my Trainwreck has ceased to be and is now becoming a JTM45-like amp. I needed to find out if this amp was for me and now I know. To answer your questions I used Mallory caps with the exception of the PI where I had some .1 Sozos. It was schematic vers...

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question
Ampdoc, I've got a ppiv master in it that works pretty well. It adds a touch of saturation at lower volumes and will oscillate slightly if both the master and volume are turned up to 10. I am always interested in mods or tweaks to get better sound at lower volumes. Please feel free to send me any tw...

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question
LeftyStrat,
I just re-applied to the JTM forum. My name there is ricks66jazzmaster.
I'm now slightly confused. You mentioned attaching the 5v to pins 6 and 8 but I've looked at the schematic and it suggests pins 2 and 8. Is there a reason to use pin 6 instead of 2?
Thanks.

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question
Lefty, It might have been under my wife's address. I'll try joining again under my address. One quick question: I'm using the Heyboer trannies that Toneslut sells. According to this link the the primaries (yellow) would be attached to pins 2 and 8 and the secondaries (gray) would be attached to 4 an...

Lefty,
That makes total sense. Thanks for all the help, I really appreciate it. It's great to have so many knowledgeable people at this board.

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question
DENIED! Lefty, the JTM45 Group denied my acceptance. Don't know what I did wrong. I planned out my course of action and it doesn't seem too difficult. I guess my only question is regarding the tube rectifier: My bias is controlled from a bias tap on the transformer, as opposed to the standard...

Re: Please forgive me... A blasphemous question
Thanks for the help everyone. Moose I aprreciate you alternate solutions. My problem isn't so much a bright issue as it is a gain and feel issue. It doesn't clean up much (which I knew about but didn't realize was so important to me) and I find the sound fatiguing to my ears. I have really been fall...

Please forgive me... A blasphemous question
Hi all, I have been playing my TW schematic A4 clone for a few months now and I realize that it's just not me. I never thought That I'd be upset about so much gain. I play it and then my Marshall plexi and I realize I like the warmth that doesn't seem apparent in the Wreck. Anyway, my question...

Re: A quick clip of my TWreck clone
Loverocker, Yeah, it's got a PPIMV in it. It gives maximum grind at lower volumes. It's funny, when you turn up the Master the distortion lessens and the bass starts to get more pronounced. I A/B'd it with my revamped Marshall Plexi RI today and I'm having a hard time deciding which one I like bette...

Elcabong,
I was using a Les Paul Standard with Voodoo pickups through a 2X12 with Celestion Greebacks.

A quick clip of my TWreck clone
Finally had a couple of minutes to record my amp. I haven't taken pics yet but I wanted to share. Granted, this was done at very low volumes (just above TV) and I had to place the mic on a chair. It gets a crazy amount of gain (I think I had it up to only 7) and the lower frequencies become more pro...

A quick biasing question (or two)
I just finished replacing my pre-phase master with a post-phase master and this thing is really rocking now. A have two quick and dumb questions about my bias: 1) I checked the current and the amp is running @375 VDC at plate 3. According to the conversion info I read, the bias on the EL34s should t...
