Re: Need some Advice, just got a Stancor A-3800
Thanks Guy's for the responses. Wow Ken sounds like he and John Dunlavy had a lot in common. He made Dunlavy speakers, huge monitors used in mastering studios and hifi systems. He would get a pallet of drivers from Vifa and reject up to 80% of them. Funny wonder if the people shelling out $400-500 f...

Need some Advice, just got a Stancor A-3800
For $49 off of ebay and I have been gearing up to a Matchless build - 2 channel that will be a Spitfire/Nighthawk combo. I bought a Edcor 25w 4k OT for it along with a Hammond 270FX that I had and a Thordarson choke. I bought the Stancor thinking I could make an Express at somepoint as I have a nice...

Re: Hook-up Wires
Sigh. - yes, sigh Yes. Sigh. Humans have an almost infinite capacity for self deception They certainly do. Good. We have common ground for discussion. If it cannot be measured, does it even exist? Ah, there's the rub isn't it? Can you measure the mass of sub-atomic particles? I can't, I have actual...

Re: Hook-up Wires
Very insightful and thanks for sharing. I am building an amp with your least favourite, a PTFE mil-spec, 1.5mm thick, silver-plated copper core conductor with 19 strands, 1000V, 14A. I choose it because I thought it might be more HI-FI ish (a tad brigther) given I am expecting this specific amp to ...

Re: Hook-up Wires
OK, I have a lot of experience with wire...but in the world of highend audio not guitar amp building so your mileage will vary. How and if my experience is applicable to guitar amps I'm sure is debatable. These are general observations but have been made from first hand experience after many, many h...

Re: Choke selection help
One is 145ohms, the other is 155 ohms, I'm going to just stick with the hammond since it's already ordered and on its way. I can make things more complicated then I need to at times

Choke selection help
I am building a 15w matchless based amp, 2 channel, one spitfire, one nighthawk. I have a Hammond 159P already ordered BUT I found this: https://www.rfparts.com/20c54.html $20 seems like a steal for that choke. The two are very close in spec 8H 150mA for the Thordarson and 10H 125mA for the Hammond....
