Re: How stable can you get an Express?
These circuits do prefer some tubes to others for sure.

Re: How stable can you get an Express?
I suppose it would depend on the reason for it becoming unstable. As mentioned, lead dress and a grid resistor can help. The second stage (V1 p1/2) can sometimes benefit from a small amount of capacitance between the plate and grid. Marshall did the "hot mod" trick tying the braided shield of the co...

Re: pacific output trans
Thats interesting. Someone from this forum asked Pacific this question and they replied something along the lines of they built the transformers to spec from the line cards and after built the Impedances showed different than the 6k6, This is all 11415 part numbers or equivalent including Kens Paci...

Re: pacific output trans
Glenn K is a very good friend of mine I have listen to him play Orphan Annie for around 30 years. He called Ken and was able to have him build me an express . I should have never sold it . Wow! I spoke to Ken a couple of times back in the 90's about an amp but ended up with a 50w JMP. I've been kic...

Re: pacific output trans
I would be referring to the Pacifics Ken used into the early 2000's. We had a few Pacifics OT's around 2010-2011 that I tried in our "mule". I remember being super stoked at trying them but preferred others in the long run. Ingrid and Glens Orphan Annie both have Pacific transformers and are very n...

Re: pacific output trans
I think it's likely that the original Pacific OT's were 6.6k but have nothing solid to base this on. I'm not aware of any "mapping" of a Pacific OT from an original Trainwreck to determine it's output resistance/impedance. RJ Guitars here had Pacific, and others, produce some transformers which he o...

Re: pacific output trans
From what I understand Pacific asserts that the OT's they ended up producing for Ken were not 6.6k. From what was said, Chris Merren was asked by Ken to wind some OT's to replace the A3801 Stancor. Merren produced with some prototype transformers and Pacific was to produce the new transformers to th...

Re: Fullsize express with attenuator vs lower wattage variant
Yes, the Express is a loud 40 watts. I don't like mine through an attenuator. With that being said, I would build the full tilt version. You can run it with 6V6's rather than EL34''s but it is still LOUD! In a very good way.

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?
Makes as much sense as any other potential explanation.RockinRocket wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 4:13 am My guess was he liked the taper of the 1M for the vol control, stock was getting low so he saved them for vol pots.
I've only seen 10 maybe 12 Trainwrecks so who knows if there were any other amps with other pots there.

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?
Nic, you're right those pots are a bit unique and likely not Clarostat/Honeywell. They have some characteristics of a Clarostat and Stackpole but it is very hard to say. Again, I wonder why the unknown 1 meg pot was used for volume than treble and bass in these examples. The pot industry tends to be...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?
Malou is a very interesting example. The pots themselves are a great source of consideration for me as they each appear to have been selected for a reason. Either that or they were just sourced from a box of various pots! I know that Marshall used the "hot shield" regularly in their cascaded amps i...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?
Interesting that Funk would have been involved in the Liverpool with the extra cap and 10 turn variable resistor. I wonder which amp that is and whether it is one of the more known or not. Also wonder if there was just a great deal of Mil-spec pots in stock for the Mids or if there was something abo...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?
This seems to be a bit confusing because Ingrid (92) and Kitty (91) are Expresses. Malou is a Rocket from 97 from what I see, so something is amiss. The images in the below link, said to be Malou, certainly show a Rocket amp front and back but the "gut shot's" look to be a Liverpool. Great topic for...
