In my experience a properly functioning 5f6 is one loud amp, usually too loud for most gigs if you want some breakup. What mods have you done?
More efficient speakers is one possibility.

Re: Plate-driven tonestack in Rocket?
Kevin O'Connor has an AC30 inspired circuit in one of his books. The tone stack is plate driven. He claims it has less stiffness than the CF. I am not sure what stiffness is, exactly. He also seemed to prefer to not have an unused triode: he included a reverb circuit and an effects loop option as us...

Re: Diode clipping
I built a tweed fantasy 1x12 in a tweed super cab. It has the bassman preamp, the super/deluxe inverter. fixed bias, kt66s, no negative feedback. The diodes are silicon rectifiers; I'll bet germanium would sound great, too, but I didn't have any to experiment with. I was getting the frying bacon sou...

Re: Diode clipping
Here is an idea: I put the clippers in the tone stack on the mid pot. I have the standard post cathode-follower FMV setup. I think it sounds pretty natural. It sure thickens up my Tele, but you can keep a little clean sparkle on top by tweaking the treble, and some fuzz-free warmth down below if you...

Re: JJ 7591?
Luthierwnc, The Gemini II is a cool amp that doesn't seem to have gotten the appreciation that the 1X12" Reverberockets have attained. Converting one to 2X10" sounds like a great idea; I'll bet it will be an awesome blues machine, if that is what you are into. Since NOS is getting so hard to find, i...

Re: Crate VC 50 to Rocket Reverb?
I hate to jump the thread, but I took a look at the schematic, and I have a question. What are all the optocouplers for? I don't think I have seen that kind of setup before.

You have probably already considered this easy solution: have you tried heavier strings?

Re: Which Tweed?
Mojo makes a 5f4 super kit. If you want 2x10" like the brown super you won't go wrong building one of those. You'll get a little more headroom compared to the 5e3, but probably more "grit" that the brown super. Every amp I have heard that was built from a mojo kit sounded great, but I'm no cork snif...

Re: Opinions on 6SL7, 6SN7?
I had to sort through about a dozen NOS 6SL7s in order to find two for a B-15, and they were still pretty microphonic. Has anyone tried the new Tung-Sols? How do they compare to the vintage?

Just Sayin...
Weber has a kit called a Halle that seems to be inspired by a Dumble HRM.
It might be something to consider if you want that Santana singing overdrive in a kit form, but I have never heard one.

Re: Celestion Sidewinder speaker -Anyone familliar ?
I had two in a SF Twin back in the day. The highs were sweet, but the balance was very bright; I had to crank the lows. Maybe they weren't properly broken in. That amp was just too loud, anyway. I currently have one in my tweedish clone (mostly 5F4) and like it very much. It does seem like Celestion...

Re: Rocket treble cap preference
Oops, I saw the title on the thread and of course you are talking about a Rocket, so you probably already have a 1M treble pot. You prefer the 500p, which must give a stiff mid boost compared to the standard 50p. I don't own a Rocket, but have experimented with these tone stacks in a similar circuit...

Re: Rocket treble cap preference
Are you talking about a Rocket? Maybe you are already on this: the 50p tonestack from a vox usually has a 1M treble pot; the 500p from a Marshall has a 250k. Plug these values into the Duncan tone stack simulation software and you will see the huge difference if you don't change the pot value, too. ...

Re: TW Rocket Right For Me?
Everybody seems to love the Rocket, but maybe you should also consider how loud he needs to play, and how clean? A Twin Reverb would have more clean headroom and fuller fidelity than any of the two octal Tweed/Marshall/Vox variants.

Re: Tele pick-up overwound
wicker, don't spend any money on parts until you take the tele to a qualified service tech. That guitar needs a set-up, pronto. Your neck could be out of whack, making the strings too high, which could cause them to play sharp. You bridge probably also needs adjustment, that is easy for an expert. T...
