Re: KT-88 Non-HRM Clip
Here is my take on this backing track - 6L6's, non-hrm, tele. I was trying to see how it responsive the amp would be on mild boost and just changing the picking attack. Your playing was very Beckish. :D Here is a clip of my personal KT-88 amp.. It actually started out as a Traynor YBA-1 gutted... ch...

My two cents worth
I mostly now use a 2-12 cabinet with a vintage G12-65 and an Emi Tonker. This combination gives some really nice fenderish highs along with good mids. My Tele and my Strat really shine with this combination, both clean and in OD mode. I play mostly blues and am a pretty agressive picker (probably du...

A little off topic, but...
Whether HAD can or can't seems somewhat immaterial as I mentioned in another post about Tag's quest for tone. For the most part people sound like they sound. As reading the posts in this discussion I thought of Santana who I first saw in 1975 playing through a single-12 Mark I Boogie combo. He sound...

Ahh, the Elusive Tone
I too as I have gotten older have been chasing that elusive tone I desire and sometimes think I have found it only to lose it. The other thing I find is just like the pros, we end up sounding like we sound. I built a D'Lite clone from scratch more than a year ago as an experiment since I am a physic...

Celestion G12-65 and an Eminence Tonker
I have had good luck with a combination of a vintage Celestion G12-65 and an Eminence Tonker. I also like the Emi 12" Legend speaker which I have in a single-12 cab. I run everything at 8 ohms.

Re: Any #124 clips around?
Gil, Great playing and a great sounding amp. Speaker is an EV? Also, just curious - What was the other guitarist playing through? Bob Are there any sound clips floating around? -Tim This is my version of it, recorded at home with a cassette handheld. There are three clips here: http://www.ayanmusic....

Eminence Legend 1218 is my choice also.
Eminence 1218- nicest tone so far IMHO.Loud and nice midrange, nice overdriven. Fat bottom end.Why is this speaker so inexpensive?.... Best overall choice is the Legend, second is the Greyhound.I just couldn't bond with the EV. I have to agree. I love the 1218. I even bought a vintage 1981 G12-65 on ...

Re: Don't care for my vintage G12-65
My thoughts: Have you tried mixing the two ... like I'm doing? It did take a bit of time for the new G-1265 to break in ... yours is an older '81 so that's not a problem. I wonder if they are really the same speaker ... good or bad. Open back seemed to work better for the G-1265 while sealed cabine...

Don't care for my vintage G12-65
Hi Everyone, Unfortunately, my tastes seem to not go with everyone else's. I recently bought a 1981 Celestion G12-65 on ebay hoping it would be the "grail" speaker that everyone else had described it to be. What I found was that it is much brighter sounding than the Eminence Legend 1218 that I had s...

Re: Final build diagram with all changes
Bob, the first triode of V3 is the 110K and then the feedback side is 120K. Is this how yours is? You should have more voltage on the 110K side. Which is the side that has the .02 cap. Also, you go to the 330ohm resistor with little or no effect on downstream voltages. No need to adjust any. Scott,...

Re: Final build diagram with all changes
Agree with Dimitris. Swap PI tubes until you get one with at least 5V more on the first triode. Also, make sure your presence pot is not grounded to the buss bar on that 3rd lug. Only the resistor and 1uf cap get grounded. Not the pot!! I'd also suggest swapping the 500ohm "choke" resistor for a 33...

Re: Final build diagram with all changes
having two resistors backwards on V2, etc. have not made the amp any less balanced for single coils vs humbuckers, both work great. If anything, correcting my error on the resistors (which changed the V2 plate voltages) may have made the amp sound less "complex" - go figure. Bob could the complex s...

Re: Final build diagram with all changes
Bob did you keep the 500 ohm choke resistor? I changed mine to 330R per Scotts advice. Also did you keep the same screen and grid resitors on the power tubes? Did you keep the jumper on the bass pot? Thanks I checked and I do have the 500 ohm choke and all the power tube resistors just as shown in ...
