Can't say I've ever heard a difference with and without.

I'm guessing it's more about EMI since commercially sold amps are subject to a lot more regulations nowadays.

Re: Richter's not coming down for breakfast

FYI I figured I'd post here, Kurtus asked that I delete his account and all posts. It's been done. I asked xtian and he felt his posts were a landmine of bad information for users and should likely be removed to clear up any risk there. I'll delete the other threads entirely as well. ~Phil Unfortun...

Re: Single Buffer Effects Loop

Note: one dowside of the 470k/10k divider isolator circuit is the load dependant attenuation. Where you get 35dB attenuation into a 1M load, you get almost 41dB into a 10k load (e.g. line level device).

Re: Single Buffer Effects Loop

If the signal level whete the fx loop is to be inserted is high, then a resistive potential divider can be used to reduce the send signal level and impedance to a reasonable level. eg 470k - 10k provides a send impedance a little under 10k, even lower if a 10k pot is used for ghe send level, which ...

Re: Single Buffer Effects Loop

Do you really need the boost on the send? Is the return gain not enough? As already mentioned, it's not about gain (in fact you usually want attenuation there), it's about output impedance. The output impedance of whatever is driving the FX send will form a low pass filter with the capacitance of t...

Re: Getting more mids from a JCM-800 preamp?

does the presence control help? are you looking for low or hi mids? Thanks for your reply. Low mids primarily, the idea is to get it to work with a Strat. For a Strat I'd day the main goal should be to reduce the high mid emphasis early in the circuit. As others have said, a 2n2 cap on the treble p...

Re: Cab joints strength...

How do you guys assemble cabs - heads, combos or speakers alike... Traditionally, dovetails seems to be the preferred method, but several joint tests made on YT clearly indicates that common miters makes the strongest glued joint... can even be reinforced by some dovels in booth direction... After ...

Re: Heater Wires - Elevate or Twist?

What about Soldano? How the heaters are wired on an SLO flies in the face of everything posted here. So I think heater wires are not as critical as some make it out to be. Yup, I don't bother with twisting for the preamp anymore, just run short straight parallel wires from socket to socket. I do DC...

Re: Questions about popping noise

I was interested in the composition of Orange Dual Dark, so I looked at the related circuits. I can't find Dual Dark's official circuit, so I have to guess, but judging from the tube layout, I'm guessing that the Jim Root Terror and Dark Terror preamps are probably assigned to each channel and swit...

Re: KiCad design files for a bunch of projects

Transistor is used if you need to switch multiple relays from one switch. Also you can use LED indicator either in the amp or in the pedal without needing any additional circuit. Just connect a LED from CTRL to ground and when you short CTRL to ground the relay switches and led turns off. Hey, than...

Re: Lead dress - Let's do the twist

I haven't twisted filament wiring in years, I can't hear any hum so I don't bother.

DC elevating them makes a much bigger difference (as in the hum disappears entirely). Maybe it's because they're elevated that non-twisted works well.

Re: New build - Dual Channel Dual Mode 2204

Thanks for the photo and info. Looks great! Yes, I wondered if the 47R resistor was worth the trouble, so it's interesting to hear that you decided to remove it. Thanks for the good info re the FET boost, too. I have a build coming up that will use one, so I may try your method with the higher valu...

Re: New build - Dual Channel Dual Mode 2204

Very cool build, Snicksound. I know you no longer have the amp, but do you have any guts photos you could share? Curious to see the final board and layout. Also, I have a couple of questions, if you don't mind: 1. The 47R resistor after the rectifier, how did you arrive at the value? 2. About the F...

Re: New build - Dual Channel Dual Mode 2204

This will probably be the last post on this amp as it's going to its new home tomorrow. See below the final schematic and a potato quality demo. I did get to play one gig with it and it was GREAT. I found the boost to be a bit intense for some songs so I complemented with my pedals. When I wanted pr...
