Re: dumble speaker cabinet
How many "real" Dumbles do you need? I am sure MG will be able to supply all of them very quickly, as much as any quantity of any model Bluesbreaker, white JTM45s, 18W combos, early Parks, along their genuine new Hiwatts and JMIs.

Re: Any delay pedal recommendations?
I second the T.C.Electronics Nova Delay. As soon a sI got my hands on one, I replaced the DL4 on my board. What a difference in by-passed tone as well as in delay modes! The DL4 just has one advantage: its 3 pre-set footswitches. In the Nova Delay, you will find the option to cut down the number of ...

Re: Blackface Princeton - get the power section working hotter
I have had no problems with 5V4s in PRs and tweed Deluxes. But I actually prefer the tone with the standard 5Y3, as it is more transparent and open.

Re: Fender Super 5G4
Look at your back panel. In contrary to later versions you will only find a single speaker jack and another jack (hole) with Pulse written underneath. So far I have not heard about an amp where that Pulse jack was wired. How about yours? Sorry for the typo, I meant Triad trannies, including the chok...

Re: Output Transformer Frequency Response
I did not remeber yesterday, but installing matched 56k is a standard treat to narrow panel Deluxe amps when I service them.
Great that you are happy with your amp now!

Re: It has Vibrato
The amp has a 5G4 sticker inside ?? It does have vibrato. Does a leaky cap have a specific physical characteristic or is it a question of lowered values. ange Congrats to this rare find, Ange! I own a pinkish brown Super with tweed era-style grill (maroon with yellow threads), normal order controls...

Re: Best speaker for an AA964 Princeton or Vibrolux???
I forgot to mention EV10s, which were used by SRV in his Super Reverbs. For those as well as for JBLs, Altecs and other heavier speakers I strongly suggest a speaker board made of plywood, and preferably slightly thicker than stock.

Re: Best speaker for an AA964 Princeton or Vibrolux???
Then you might want to stick with the Princeton Reverb circuit, just leaving away the tremolo (not so great IMHO anyway) and Reverb. Using one triode of the second 12AX7 the same way as the reverb recovery amp would give you more gain than a standard Princeton Amp has. If you enjoy the tone of small...

Re: How well do tube testers work?
I've been eye'n the maxi-matcher what did you mean specifically by "unregulated Maxi Matcher" ? The standard version has an uregulated power supply. For US versions, you can order a 275 USD upgrade, but for the export version it would have been 475 USD, which I felt to be way too much. But ordering...

Re: 1960 Fender Bassman
Your Bassman is most likely an older pro re-tweed. It also has new speaker wires, besides the changes that were already adressed. It will never appeal to a collector, but be highly appreciated by players. In any case, this will surely become a fantastic sounding amp after giving it some TLC. P10Qs a...

Re: Output Transformer Frequency Response
To: Andy Le Blanc OK, I'm going to try jumping the whole section. While looking at the 5D8 that you mentioned, I noticed that there was no negative feedback in the tone circuit. I'd like to try removing just the 10 Meg negative feedback resistor. Could I do that in the 5E8-A tone circuit without an...

Re: How well do tube testers work?
I happily own two old Hickocks for pre-amp tubes. If I remember correctly, they do not go over a plate voltage of 230V or so, they do not help much for power tubes. If testing higher numbers of tubes regularly, the need to switch between both systems in double triodes kills quite some time, so that ...

Re: Fender Super 5G4
I happen to own an early 6G4 brown Super with a May '60 stamp on its tube chart. It most likely has the same specs as yours: - Triad trannies (still the same type found in narrow panel tweed Supers) - Astron caps - tweed era brown grill cloth with yellow threads - pink brown tolex - unused 'Pulse' h...

Re: 50% failure rate
On my last 2 consecutive orders, I have gotten 1 bad tube with each matched pair of JJ EL-34's. So, 4 tubes ordered, 2 bad. The tubes were ordered to replace a matched set of JJ's, 1 of which went microphonic after 14 months of use. Can't blame AES at all for this as the tubes were probably working...
