Re: Tweed twin HP 6v6 Build

I'm think Tung-sols are just rebranded EH 6v6s. They look very similar. I put the Tung-sols in and biased them at around 22 mAs with about 398 on the plates after about 20 mins I could see the screens flashing and 3 of them red plated, one took out a screen resistor. I also had a pair of recent 6v6 ...

Tweed twin HP 6v6 Build

Finally finished my Tweed Twin HP 6v6. Lots of experimenting and fine tuning. Did the cascading gain mod with a Marshall channel. Was way too much so a changed it back to a standard bright and regular channel. Did add a 3 way negative feedback switch and a tone stack lift, dual bias controls and a P...

6V6 tweed twin build

Thanks the folks that gave me some pointers for this. Got this far with the build and fired it up yesterday no smoke and everything worked. Built it with the dual bias controls to use matched pairs, so far seems to be working well put 2 matched sets of some older 6v6s I had on hand. Biased then arou...

Re: Tweed High Power 6v6s Output Tranny Recomedations

Getting started got the iron and chassis. Got a deal on a Hammond dual voltage 290 D2X 355 and 305 taps will probably use the 305 to give me about 380 on the plates and picked up a Mojo tone twin tweed low power OP. Thought about using a smaller OP but I have amps to do that. Modding the 1st channel...

Tweed High Power 6v6s Output Tranny Recomedations

Hi all I am trying to figure out the proper Output Transformer for a quad of 6v6s basically planning on a 50 Watt, 4000ohm type but I am curious if anyone has other recommendations since I would like to run multiple taps and generally plan to use a 8ohm speaker. I have considered a Marshall type OP ...

Re: Completed - 5F8A - Four 6V6's

Hi JGK here Nice build just doing some research and planning a quad 6v6 tweed twin myself. I was just wondering what kind of iron you used you mention the heybower OT which I would assume is a bassman OT. Do you run that through a 4ohm speaker? I was thinking of getting something with multiple taps ...

Re: Champ Reverb Build

Hey Fellas, Hope you are all well. Would anyone care to suggest operating points for the 6CA7/EL34 and the 6L6? I'll have switchable bias resistors for 6CA7/EL34 and the 6L6, but looking at the tube data it seems they don't like to operate at similar plate voltages. The reason I ask is that I'm try...

Re: Champ Reverb Build

JGK, That's one fine looking cab. The one it's stacked on ain't bad either. Thanks. The one below is a started life as a 6V6 Plexi but I ended up running EL34 in it. Sounds fantastic. I have a switch to cascade the 2 channels and PPIMV to tame it. The smaller output tranny saturates nicely. Its pre...

Re: Champ Reverb Build

Finished mine love it will try to do some sound clips. But it is really a nice versatile amp. It came out a bit bigger than I planned but it has a full sized reverb tank, upgraded transformers and a 10" Celestion gold. I built the cab big enough for a 12 inch speaker also.

Re: Champ Reverb Build

Here's a Picture hope you can make it out. The grid stopper resistors are the usual Marshall configuration and you may be able to get by without. I changed the last dropping resistor to 1K to get a bit more voltage on V1,V2 and V3 V1 and V3 are between 230 and 240 depending on the tube while V2 is a...

Re: Champ Reverb Build

Hi using a Allen TP20 looking at about 400 volts coming into the amp filter caps are 22Uf,40Uf,22Uf,22Uf. There is a 4H 50Ma Choke between the 1st 2 filter caps and I ran my OT from the 2nd filter cap about 380 volts with 22 volts across the cathode. The dropping resistors I used were 2 1Ks. Reverb ...

Re: Champ Reverb Build

Moving on with mine Did a bit of tweaking changed the cathode resistor to 360 Ohm and added a 5.6k grid stopper. 380 on the Plate with 22 volts or so across the cathode and according to the bias calculator its running about 92% Reduced the reverb mixer to 2.2 Meg. There still is allot of reverb you ...

Re: Champ Reverb Build

Hi all I tried 2 different types of Master Volumes on mine and was never really satisfied with either replaces the 220K resistor with on and did the Train wreak type 4. Both were pretty ratty sounding and I had some problems parasitic feedback with both. If you going to use a 6l6 or EL34 it moves th...
