Re: Tube Chassis Layout
Thanks for this idea! I actually have all three of Kuehnel's I can't building design books, plus a few others. Not sure if I noticed that in the books but I'll check the website out so I have a better idea of a suggested way of getting this all laid out. It is a busy design, but I figured if I was g...

Re: Tube Chassis Layout
Thanks for some of your thoughts! As far as the schematic goes, I have it in parts and pieces. I haven't put it all on one sheet or got it all laid out bit by bit yet. Sounds erratic, it's all there, just don't have it all nice and pretty. The circuits are very typical from stuff that's out there, m...

Tube Chassis Layout
Hey group! I've received most of the parts I've ordered for my tube amp build. I've watched a number of videos and read articles that discuss the suggested layout of the components but I'd like to hear from anyone with their thoughts of the layout I've setup on the chassis. The PDF file should show ...

Double the tubes, double the power?
Hello all! I have a quick question for all of you builders out there. For my amp build, I am planning on using two 6L6GC output tubes in My output section. However, down the road I may want to double the output power, which I believe I can just add A couple of extra tubes in a specific configuration...

Re: Clean Preamp Configuration?
Thanks for that information! I'll definitely look that over.
I really just need to buy a nice amp and play. This is getting to be too much, haha!

Re: Clean Preamp Configuration?
The idea is for me to add ambient effects with a parallel effects loop but be able to get food volume from the amp with as little distortion as possible. All of that will be coming from effects on the front end of the amp.
For me, I'm looking at this as a glorified PA system!

Chassis wiring methods
Have any of you amp builders have a preference of how you wire the components of the chassis? I come from more of a circuit board background but they seem sort of impractical for amp wiring.
So that leaves point-to-point and turret boards. Any opinions, advantages/disadvantages, etc?
Please share!

Re: Clean Preamp Configuration?
To move beyond the preamp stage, regardless of what type of print tube is used, how much does that affect the design of the output stage? Having some trouble getting my head around that, as well. Also, I intend on putting a parallel effect loop in between the preamp and output stage, so I'm not sure...

Re: Clean Preamp Configuration?
Thanks TUBEDUDE!
One question: I thought the 6SN was sort of noisy? I had seen some circuits with that and had read the break up pretty easy. Please educate me!

Re: Clean Preamp Configuration?
Hmm.. I hadn't heard of using a pentode as a preamp. Interesting! I've attached the current architecture I'm starting with, which is essentially a Fender front-end using a 12AX7 that's split with a modified FMV tone circuit that includes a shifter to move the frequency notch around, if desired. If a...

Re: Clean Preamp Configuration?
Very well, thanks! I have been looking at replicating Fender preamp circuits which for the most part show the preamps split with a gain control, so that's good to know I'm on the right track. Any comments about where the tone control should be placed? I've seen it placed after the first stage, then ...

Clean Preamp Configuration?
Hey all, I'm working on building my own "pedal platform" amplifier and I'm having a little trouble figuring out the right arrangement for the preamp tubes to provide the cleanest sound possible with very little distortion. I've seen arrangements where there is a gain/volume potentiometer right after...

Re: Tube amp build for particular application
Hey all,
New to the for but appreciate what I've read through already.
I'm so on a clean amp hiding journey so it's great to learn from all the errors you've already made!
The Internet shows Sunn is owned by Fender, so maybe... Just get a Fender?
