Re: Turret board suggestions
The 3 mm board is the sheet thickness not the hole diameter. The stem of the turret is longer for going through the board. Turrets do have different inside through holes. Keystone Electronics offers several. Another option is eyelets. Look at Keystone Electronics website. Out of curiosity, did you ...

Re: Turret board suggestions
Yes, that took me a little bit to figure out what the 3 mm was for and that's where I was getting confused because I've been watching other build videos some of those guys were really hefty turrets. Then I looked at my little puny ones and I had turret envy.

Re: Turret board suggestions
Thanks for the software tips and the turret suppliers. I have been using a CAD program for some of the initial design work but it's honestly a bit much for what I'm trying to do. It's a high-end software that has thousands of features, of which I use about 10% of. I haven't tried to do any soldering...

Re: Turret board suggestions
Really? That's it? You mean I don't need to go spend a whole bunch of money on some expensive layout software? Miracle, miracle! Are you sure The turrets that I originally shared for this post are going to work okay? I did a little preassembly on a small circuit yesterday and while they do seem reas...

Re: Turret board suggestions
Those turrets are fine. I can put up to four 1/2W metal film resistors in the top hole of that size turret. Fewer fat leads fit, but you can always wrap around the barrel of the turret. http://sluckeyamps.com/phoenix/boards.jpg Sluckey, Is that some kind of a software package you use to do the grap...

Re: Power Circuit Advice
Some general comments that might help you... - 12AX7 plates are generally run at about 0.5 to 1 milliampere. - Self-biased triode circuits as common in guitar amps are fairly insensitive to the plate supply voltage. - Setting a specific plate voltage is not what those dropping resistors are for. Th...

Re: 12AX7 test power supply
Hmm... Interesting! Maybe I can explore that as well. I think it would be pretty handy to have, thanks to many suggestions by the group here, I've taken a step back and tried to thoroughly understand the various circuits before actually going into a build. That way I at least know what kind of resul...

Re: 12AX7 test power supply
I tried looking through eBay and some other sources last night for a voltage generator. I found some at an extraordinarily expensive price. Then I got to thinking just as you had suggested, perhaps building a small power supply with two outputs that could be adjusted between 200 and 250 volts on one...

Re: 12AX7 test power supply
Oh gosh, why didn't I think of that?! I have all kinds of electrical test equipment but I do not have a voltage generator. So I will have to use the power transformer that I have. I agree about the voltage divider, in fact I try to do that and things got quite warm. I don't have another rectifier bu...

12AX7 test power supply
Hey group, Has anyone got a suggestion of how I could create a selected voltage to power a group of 12AX7s for testing? The current test set up I have is throwing out like 496VDC, which is unloaded so that's to be expected, but I've got to knock that down to 270-300 VDC. I'm using some amp books to ...

Interesting! That would be fun to try and see how it worked out.

Re: Phase Inverter Choices
Those are some interesting schematics!
Forgive my ignorance, but is there an advantage or disadvantage of using a CT transformer to do the phase inversion, versus a tube? Cost? Ease of use? Sound quality?

Re: Phase Inverter Choices
Wow that's alot of info! Thanks! The intention is to have/drive as little distortion as possible and also to drive a pair of 6L6 tubes, so everything is a bit more "modern". I did like the paraphase but the LTP seemes to be the preferred choice and I figured I'd try to stick with something that was ...

Re: Power Circuit Advice
You cannot calculate that voltage divider network without knowing the current that will be flowing in the V1, V2, V3, V4, and V5 branches. Once you have that info you can figure out everything else. Yes, that's the other part I need to work on, to get all the different currents from the various bra...

Re: Power Circuit Advice
I installed it but then it barked at me about not having any rectifier files. I ignored that and then it had some kind of a violation error. Could just be my PC but it seemed like it was a operating system kind of thing. I'll try and take another look at it and see if I can get it going. I don't min...
