Re: Gold Colored Dumble Chassis And 70s Indicator Lamp
I used this stuff to prep the chassis I've done. It's an acid solution, so wear protection and pay attention, but it wasn't awful to work with. https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/cspages/alumiprep.php The next time I do this, I will follow the advice of a friend of mine who uses the process prof...

Re: Gold Colored Dumble Chassis And 70s Indicator Lamp
Many, perhaps most sheet metal shops can do it. It is a much simpler process than anodizing and is especially common in aircraft applications. I did it myself at home, and got decent results. This is the stuff. Prep is the important bit, then you just soak your chassis in the solution in an appropri...

Re: Gold Colored Dumble Chassis And 70s Indicator Lamp
I don't know what's on those chassis, but I have used Alodining on aluminum chassis for an interesting gold toned finish. You can buy the stuff from Aircraft Spruce. It's a fairly durable, corrosion resistant finish. Most importantly for our purposes, it does not inhibit conductivity like most other...

Re: How often do people use "Rock/Jazz" switch, or other controls?
I build mine like a D'lite with just the Bright, OD, and PAB switches. No FET input, no footswitching. All controls on the front panel. It works really well for me, but I lean heavily into the high gain aspect and just want my "one good sound that works". YMMV.

Aww, man. That's sad to hear. He was one of the first guys I talked to about amps that kinda set me on the path. Super cool dude.

He implied that the cost is comparable to an original tweed deluxe you'd be likely to find in a vintage guitar shop. Still fairly nebulous...

So, it looks like you have something like this, yes? My preference is a .01 mid cap, a .001 treble cap, and a 10uf cathode bypass cap on the second stage. Your ear may want something different.

Re: Inexpensive DVM wanted....
Agreed, I've had a few pieces of Klein electronic gear and it has always provided good service. If you are adventurous, you might check ebay for a used Fluke. The quality is real, but not strictly necessary for occasional/hobby type use.

If it works ok with the OD switched off, I would suspect a lead dress issue.

Re: New build Lnfb question
When I tried the CC on the LNFB of my ODS, I didn't notice any difference in overall noise. What I found was a big difference in the texture of the sound. The clean side was warmer, with a nicer transition into breakup as volume came up or I leaned into the pick attack. The overdrive, on the other h...

Re: New build Lnfb question
I like the Vishay/Beyschlag MBE metal films. I have also used some NOS carbon comps that can be kinda cool, I think they are available from HiFi Collective.

You might try a dry cleaning solution such as Imperial.
