Re: Another EF80 practice amp build

Can't speak for anyone but myself, I'm interested. Sounds like a nice little amp. Can you convert the Spice schematic to PDF?

Re: Matching a second V30 to the current

Have you considered purchasing either two brand new speakers or two used speakers out of a 2x12 or 2x4 cabinet? Or even a used 2x12 loaded with your desired speakers? I believe any of these would be pretty well matched. Alternatively I'd look for any date or manufacturers codes on your existing spea...

Re: Steel String Singer #005 build

Great looking build so far. I agree with what's been said about your lead dress, SUPER! Did you paint your OT Secondary wires black where they exit the chassis? If so nice detail. Edit: I see you Primary wires have also been Blackened. Also great job of documenting. As I read through some of these o...

Re: Footswitch-able FET Boost

Great question Martin, especially when it's not too difficult. As you pointed out he did make the FET board with a relay. I think I'm going to try this on my BM build, the FET/relay combined.

I suggest putting this in the FAQ section.

Re: Footswitch-able FET Boost

What I find interesting on #005 is the fact it already has a front panel FET level adjustment. Here is my #004 SSS where I put the pot in the input hole. 20250319_071950.jpg It's not only #005. #004 has it too and both of SRV's amps as well. The 'Mid Accent' switch on the far right was also replace...

Here is my #004 SSS where I put the pot in the input hole. This is a common method on ODS amps.

Re: Getting plate voltages just right?

To change the range of your bias circuit, adjust the value of the 3K3 resistor on the bias board. If you want the range to go higher, increase the resistor value and vice versa. A decade box works really well for this if you have one. This would be better than my method. With my method I was unable...

Re: Footswitch-able FET Boost

Interesting, I hadn't looked at #005. Your reasoning makes sense but now I'm curious what HAD's reasoning was. Something we may never know...

How exactly would you want it to work? Both FET and Normal inputs selected by footswitch or only Normal Selected with FET as FET only or ???

Re: Footswitch-able FET Boost

Captaincoconut, to me one of the big benefits of putting the FET on a relay is that I'm able to replace the FET jack with a B10k pot to replace the trimmer on the FET board, allowing a front panel level adjustment of the FET output. Is it that you do not want this front panel adjustment or do you ha...

Re: Getting plate voltages just right?

I've encountered a similar problem. What i did was remove the 27k resistor between the bias trim potentiometer and ground and replaced it with a 22k. Then I put a 5k on the other side of the trim pot, between the pot and rectifier diode. This kept the overall load on the bias circuit the same (~37k)...

How much time did the amp have powered up prior to the gig? Is it possible the tubes are still burning in?

Bluesmaster Style 100w HRM Build

According to the Mrs. I've got too many amps already, so why not build another? By my thinking I do have ODS's based on #s 102, 124 & 183 along with a SSS #4 but I don't have a Bluesmaster... This will be based on the schematic drawn by @mdroberts1234 and the layout provided by Tony Albany here . Bi...

There is much more to it. Definitely something to look into, there is plenty of discussion on grounding. For now my suggestion is follow the original as closely as you can.

Re: #124 "T4" Transformer

You are correct, those are two different transformers; a 6.3 in the build documents and 12.6 on the BOM.. #124 was built with a 6.3vac secondary xfmr with a voltage doubler/rectifier. If you are keeping true to #124 this is the way to go, both the schematic and layout in your post show this style 12...
