Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

The Fender schematic snip and the pencil sketch you posted are both full wave bridge rectifier circuits. I think the thing that threw everybody off was your use of the term Artificial Center Tap, which is another subject entirely. The voltage multiplier above is a novel way to convert a full wave b...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

As I continued to read down the wiki article I finally scrolled down to a diagram that is basically the same one that’s installed in the amplifier right now and they are referring to that configurations as a “voltage multiplier”. Am I miss reading this? Yes. The pic in that section clearly uses the...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

You may have missed some info in that wiki article... wiki.jpg OK I see where the confusion originated from based on my initial research. When I read “four diodes in a bridge configuration”, I wasn’t clear at the time as to which rectifier was being referred to as a bridge configuration. The four d...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

The other point might be worth mentioning is that the wiki article that I posted a link to was the only article that I could find with a clear illustration of fenders original rectifier circuit. Now we all know that Wikipedia isn’t the most reliable source of information but unfortunately it was the...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

Well you now have all of the information you need, now that we all understand what you initially were asking. Forums are a great place to get help, support, ideas, and learn new things. But you also need to be willing to do some reading on your own, particularly when others provide you with valuabl...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

So you don't want to learn the terminology but you want someone to tell you if it's safe/appropriate. What's wrong with learning something you need to know? And why push back against people trying to help you? I don’t have an issue conceding to the point that my Terminology is incorrect but it was ...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

I’m just uncertain as to whether or not I should leave the rectifier as I have it installed now or if I should go back to the rectifier configuration that fender had originally intended for that transformer. Hello. Is there anybody in there? Your circuit ***AND*** the Fender circuit are both FWB ci...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

Here’s the current configuration as it is now. That’s a full wave bridge, same as Fender use, except you’re doubling up each diode. As the winding has no centre tap, you have no alternative full wave arrangement possible. So it sounds like I’m not hurting anything with the current configuration? It...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

Here’s an image of the Blues Deluxe rectifier because this is the transformer that I’m using although unlike the image it’s currently in a full wave bridge configuration That image is a full wave bridge. May not be drawn the way you would like to see it but it is a FWB. Because I’m trying to unders...

The transformer’s HT winding has no centre tap, so a non-bridge full wave rectifi...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

Are you asking what the pros and cons are for FW vs FWB? An artificial center tap (a resistor from each end of the coil to ground, as is done for heater windings sometimes) has no place in a rectifier circuit. No not exactly. I’m referring to the high voltage supply of the power transformer. I beli...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

You never want to use an artificial center tap in a rectifier circuit. A Full wave requires a center tap, a Full Wave Bridge gets its ground reference from the bridge. See http://www.hammondmfg.com/pdf/5c007.pdf This I already understand but this point may still be helpful for others. If you alread...

Re: Full wave vs full wave bridge rectifier?

I think the question I’m actually trying to present is under what circumstance would you not want to use an artificial center tap as part of the rectifier? You never want to use an artificial center tap in a rectifier circuit. A Full wave requires a center tap, a Full Wave Bridge gets its ground re...
