Re: Normster D style amp
I wonder if electrical wire for the house could be used as buss wire or is it to thick and oversized. I think 16 AWG is the size i have lying around in the garage. Nice build Mark! I used brass rod in the past (sometimes hardware stores have it in the welding area), but lately I've been using house...

Re: voltage PT #183
mean't to tell you that the half-power switching doesn't look quite right in the 183 layout.. here are the notes I got from Shad reguarding the /2 power switch.. Half power is a little funky. Cathodes should go to the switch poles. > R's on the top throws, ground on the lower throws. If you see som...

Alternate #183 schematic.
Here's an alternate schematic that shows every feature so you can use it as a build 'check list'. I've deviated in the area of the footswitch since I have a Silk Road two-button that I want to use. Also, I plan to use 6CA7 tubes. UPDATED: I forgot to adjust the dropping string and B+ voltages when a...

Re: voltage PT #183
Thanks I'll take a look at it..Good luck with the build T Here's the schematic... I like to have a complete schematic that I can use to build against (highlight each wire/node)... this one has the MOJO763 transformer in it. I'll cross-post in the files section. Edit: Schematic updated with change t...

Re: starting a new build
Is that place a surplus dealer? I was looking at their pot selection and it seemed like a lot of different stuff. The cap that mdroberts linked to is a radial snap in cap. I don't see any like dcribbs has. It looks like surplus/grey market to me. I can't find the dcribbs ones either... I was just h...

Re: starting a new build
dcribbs1412, Your having fun sourcing parts too huh :) I don't recognize the caps you are using there! I ended up with some F&T main filter caps and Nicon for the others. Re: voltage PT #183
Martin shouldn't that be 460v. Yes, didn't proof read well enough; thanks for pointing it out. Mark, The Hammond 290FX Twin PT replacement puts out 423V from 122VAC at the wall in my ODS. It was ~440V unloaded, as I recall. It is supposed to produce period correct voltages, I believe. Lots of succe...

Re: voltage PT #183
FWIW, the Fender Twin Reverb AB763 schematic (1964) shows PT 125P34A and 360V on the 6L6 plates; 340 VAC at the HT. I found this bit of history on an amp rental site: "The rating of the amplifier's output power was also upgraded to 100 watts. Fender factory schematics show slightly higher voltage o...

Re: starting a new build
Where did you get the filter caps? Haven't been able to find anything myself... I may opt for the EPCOS Radials and modify the PS board a bit. Where are you going to put the half-power switch? I'm thinking between the IEC connector and the fuse holder, closer to the fuse holder, centered on the powe...

Re: voltage PT #183
Ciao the REAL question is what are the specs of tf 130 power transformer used on DUMBLE ODS ??you should get 465 volts on the plates , i think a 360-0-360 power trafo would be fine , with loaded circuit 345-0-345 CIAO This talk of TF130 and 465VDC (as per the talbany layout) is confusing me... On s...

Re: 715 Orange Drops in Dumbles?
I think one or two showed up in the 183 layout/schematic, but if you go way back in the ampgarage threads I seem to recall they were generally frowned upon and 6PS 600V was preferred.Mark wrote:I was wondering which amps have these caps and where are they used in the circuit?

Chassis Hole Guide
I visited the metal shop yesterday and everything looks on-track for the next batch of chassis. We are currently sold out of both the black and silver right now. I'll post again when we have chassis to ship. I talked to the shop about the stainless-steel galling and it is a known issue due to the ha...
