I have a ton of cabs around here, and my FAV is a 2x12 with an older G12T-75 and an Eminence Wizard. Odd.JamesHealey wrote:late 80s g12t75 actually sound good. The new ones don't for sure.

Rocket B+ Voltage - what is most desirable?
Just looking to build yet another Rocket, and am just choosing some iron. Have any of you experimented with different B+ voltages? I think the clean headroom would be increased dramatically with 360 VDC. Would like to hear your findings....

Re: Rocket/Express twist (=frankenwreck?)
The amp is fixed bias and tubes are nicely cookin' @ 42ma. SS power supply, 428VDC B+. Custom Heyboer 4k5 opt transformer (same size as Marshall 50W). Larger PS dropping resistors for the pi/pre sections. PI has 470R cathode + 18K tail. No negative feedback. I'll endeavor to get some clips done.

Rocket/Express twist (=frankenwreck?)
I have built a number of Express amps and a few Rockets. My latest wreck thing takes the Rocket front end and marries it to the Express PI and EL34 output stage, but no negative feedback. Talk about an interesting amplifier. The only deviation is I put a "body" switch with changes the first coupling...

Let's have a little discussion about pickups.
I have come to the conclusion that pickups are very important in the Trainwreck equation. I just played one of my Express clones with a Strat that had 3 Jackson J-200 stacked single coils. Low output, but maybe the best pickups I've heard into an Express. The were 2 other strats in the room had 1 wi...

Re: Convince me to Rocket
I have built a number of Express amps, and recently completed a Rocket. I think it might be my choice over the Express. Use a boost in front and you can get wonderful hi gain modern tones. I used a Boss GE-10 EQ. I used a 680pf coupling cap, and added a mid pot instead of just a resistor. My B+ was ...

Re: Output Transformer polarity whats up
dumbles and their clones in general fire "backwards"... different speaker manufactures all fire different too, ev, jensen, jbl etc..... celestions fire backwards in general. so if you wire up a celestion normally with a dumble it should be in phase. im pretty sure tone tubbies fire the opposite, so...

Re: Output Transformer polarity whats up
If the ot's are wound backwards, wouldn't the negative feedback loop turn into a positive feedback loop?

Increase the .002 cap to .0047 (the one before the 150k grid leak of the following stage), or even tack on the .0047 to the existing.

Re: Anyone interested in 80W, 3K3 output transformers?
Custom from where? What sort of output section are you envisioning? Stew Magnetic Components would be building them, who does the iron for some very reputable amp manufacturers. I am thinking just a doubled-up Express output but perhaps with the LarMar type PPIMV (which is out of the circuit when c...
