Oscilloscope Help
I am planning on buying an oscilloscope, and I need a little advice. I can get a Philips PM3350 for $200 in excellent condition with all the hardware and manuals. I also could probably bargain that down. On the other hand, I can get a Tektronix 7613 for $50. The problem with it is that the digital f...

Re: Ceriatone Expression
Some of the 50w plexi's have low plate voltages like the wrecks and that would make them as loud compared to eachother. My fourbanger Plexi with healthy xf2's and 560V on the plates will *EAT* a wreck. However, it eats greenbacks too   Maybe the room can make a difference too. ...

Re: Ceriatone Expression
I don't believe this. a healty 100w will burry your wreck. the express has much less than 50w clean headroom whereas a marshall often has 120w. the express can seem loud because it is bright and has a hard attack I have played my Wreck fully cranked with another guitarist that had a 50 watt plexi f...

Re: Ceriatone Expression
My Ceriatone could give a 100 watt plexi a run for its money. For being less than half the wattage (or maybe just half), that is pretty damn loud. Re: Cabinet built, finish suggestions please.
If your going to gig with it, Poly would probably be a tad more durable. However, I personally like the look of lacquer better.

Re: Ceriatone Expression
I think the main reason why ceriatone's ot seems louder is that nik usually use the 5k2 primary while many others, including most originals, use the 6k6 primary. my exp puts our 26w at the point of clipping with nik's trannies. I don't know why everybody says a express is loud - many of the classic...

Re: DIY Airbrake...
Sorry to revive an old thread. Just wondering a couple things:
1. Has anyone wired another output jack in parallel like the Komet Air Brake for 2 cabs?
and
2. Has anyone integrated a (relatively) effective line out into one of these babies?

Re: Interesting Oscillation Experience
This is very common with high gain amps. I've had to use aluminum shielding on several marshalls and trainwreck circuits. I recently had this same issue with a Marshall 36 watt head. Shielding a head cabinet is just good practice anyway. If you've seen the Komet amp head cabinets, they have the shi...

Interesting Oscillation Experience
I put my Ceriatone chassis on top of my new 4x12, fired it up, and was pissed to find extremely extremely bad oscillation and weird frequencies. I tested about every preamp tube combination I could, with mixed results. So, I decided I needed to chopstick it. I put it the chassis on its side and fire...

Re: Your worst encounter with the wrong end of a soldering iron.
When I was soldering up an amp, I picked up the iron by the wrong end, and just kept squeezing it for a few seconds before I recognized that burning sensation.
The worst though, was that time I soldered in my underwear...Don't ask.

Re: Renamed Wreck Clones
Which is the lynch mob thread, the "Why are some clones outlawed . . ." one? Some of the silliest pretzel logic I've seen in a while, and I follow politics a bit. FWIW, I just checked out the updated face plate--I actually find the Chinese dragon design more aesthetically pleasing than the old logo...

One in particular is really never getting my business.gearhead wrote:Agree. I did take specific note on the comments by professional amp/stompbox builders.
Agreed with some, but violently disagreed with others. The later will never, ever get my business.
