Re: Ampeg V4 4x12 Restoration
I have one of those cabinets that someone cut the original baffle, and installed an EV 3 way system, 18", 10", and horn, with the EV crossover. I've been wondering if I could return it to a 4-12 someday, and house the EV components in another cab. I have heard that some of the cups were used for tra...

Re: What would cause a flyback diode to fail/short?
I got advice/direction from several folks as to the function. One link said that the OT would be protected from transient HV, stating that the voice coil could generate substantial voltage (on the tube side) by returning to center after an excursion. Others felt that the main function was to guard t...

Re: What would cause a flyback diode to fail/short?
I just finished a Music Man rehab that had one of those diodes shorted. It had a 5KV 250ma which I was unable to find. Found a Fender type 3KV 250ma and replaced with them. In my search, I also found Peavey had 2KV 250ma availlable.

Re: Has anyone built a tl806q
Years ago, I built 1/2 of the 806Q, and used them for the mid section of our R&R PA system. Later years I downsized, and found they make great pedal steel guitar speakers, (plenty of low end). I built another a few years back.

Here is some discussion on the SGF, and a possible lead.

Re: which Fluke?
I can only add to the quality of the Fluke meters. I had a 77 back in the 80's that was furnished by the employer, really great. I left and bought an 88, (designed for us mechanics). Later bought an 87 for my hobby use. I still use both, and the only maintenance has been the display connector, which...

Re: 3 Speaker Jacks
Here is how I installed a Marshall switch on my Twin clone with a '94 Twin OT, I added another jack to facilitate series operation, as well as parallel.

Re: Any experience with Mojo Speakers?
I put one of their G12H clones into a 2-6l6 combo, and it really opened up the high, and low response. Seems it was fairly inexpensive also.

Re: Reverb tanks?
I built one of the PAIA kits back in the early 80's, seems they were using the OC tanks then, (built by beautiful Wisconsin girls). I used it on our vocal mains, and it sounded great. Interesting to see what the 4 series tanks will sound like. (Even with the supplied IC's, the noise wasn't noticeabl...

Re: Univox U305R Reverb Tank
AES had a pretty good article on their site on how to identify tanks. Beside the impedance chart, they listed DCR values of the coils.

Re: First Amp Build: Which One and where to source
I'll add my 2c as I have been fooling around with electronics for years before I undertook my first complete build. Since I play pedal steel guitar, I decided on a "Twin" clone. I bought Weber chassis, and sourced everything else a few dollars at a time, including turret boards. After about a year I...

Re: Opinions on my heater wiring work
I certainly not the tech that most of the posters here are, but I built my last (AB763 Twin) build with the heater wiring close to the chassis with loops between tubes. I tried this because I had a '94 twin chassis that Fender wired like that. It is fairly quiet, and think I will try it with my next...

Re: Gretsch 6152 Reverb doesn't work
I am really impressed with the original Hammond tank that came with my little Airline. It's too bad you can't salvage yours. Like the previous posts, I think the Hammond tank is less efficient than current models. Just look how they drive it. The reverb transformer is the same as the output in mine!...
