Re: Tl806 ported cab with different speaker
the idea behind the 3-component shelf port in the EV TL series cabs was that you could install a port cover in the middle (across the two braces) to reduce the port area and change the port tuning to change the cab's frequency response. The EV data sheets refer to this as "step down mode,"

Re: The Immortal Amplifier
Even an AB763 Fender is relatively easy to restore. That, and the music that was made with them have given them another kind of immortality. The hardest part about restoring an AB763 -- for me anyway -- is that the kinds of caps that are commonly available for PSU uses keep on changing their footpr...

Re: The Immortal Amplifier
The idea isn't that motor run films are a choice for run-of-the-mill amps; instead, the concept is that compared to electros, they last nearly forever. A hard working tube amp with electros will need a re-cap every decade or so, while an all-film-cap amp will need new caps ever century or two. I ju...

Indeed, they are rated for AC voltage. Here's a sample from CDE:

Re: deluxe reverb faceplate template?
You might want to check on the compatibility of the original vintage vs. reproduction chassis. On many of the repro amps both the locations and the sizes of the holes don't match the originals.

Re: The Immortal Amplifier
I like the oil can/film motor cap idea, but the problem is that they get to be huge. In a tight chassis they just can't compete with the high storage density of today's electrolytic caps, which have gotten quite small. Then there's the problem of sourcing motor run caps with adequate voltage ratings...

Re: Rick Derringer
I've never met RD in person though I've seen him live many times. Come to think of it, he was the warm-up band at the first stadium rock concert I'd ever attended -- Aerosmith / Jeff Beck / Derringer on the Aerosmith "Rocks" and Beck "Wired" tour. Summer of 1976. Looking back on it, I was very fortu...

Re: Built an Air Brake over the weekend…
I don't know much about what other attenuator designers are doing, as I don't use their products. I just use a common radio attenuator design and I avoid going into deep levels of attenuation. With that said, I don't see that there is a lot of money to be made by manufacturing designs that were comm...

Re: Built an Air Brake over the weekend…
It is indeed a good sounding and simple design, though the design is nothing remarkable. He figured it out by reading an old radio design textbook's chapter on attenuation.Raoul Duke wrote: ↑Tue May 13, 2025 8:35 pm I don’t know how KF figured it out - but it definitely works extremely well with both my TW clones.

the HTTP error codes matter. the 404 error suggests that you're trying to load a specific page on the site, rather than the site's main page at it's home url. if you try to load the home url, the site responds with 502 bad gateway, which indicates that the problem is related to server-to-server com ...

Re: DIY amp head switcher
I don't think that the OP's customer actually understood the complexity of his request. To design a box like this that will be idiot proof is not a simple task. For the amount of engineering that's designed to go into this type of product I would never consider a one-off design -- to make the projec...

For comparison, here's a link to internet images of the 1x15 and 2x15 Mesa Road Ready cabs, stuffed with EVM-15L: https://img.kytary.com/eshop_ie/stredni_v4x/na/637988595183400000/ebdb0460/65026564/mesa-boogie-1x15-road-ready.jpg https://www.talkbass.com/attachments/mesa-boogie-2x15-road-ready-bass-...

Re: 1 x 12" speaker cab for clean baritone guitar - Thiele?
Fwiw those stacked 1x15 cabs look a lot like a TL-606. With the matched EVM-15L speakers those cabs are freakin' great. But it's still possible to fart them out with really big signals. If the truth were known, the Thiele-Small parameters are optimized for small signal levels, and at high signal lev...
