Re: Grounding schemes and disciplines

I was wondering about grounding in my build. Ive set things up so the my power section, screens and main filter all go to earth point at first filter cap. But I was wondering about preamp - I usually route a copper ground bus round the chassis and earth each preamp point in sequence following signa...

Re: advice needed

thanks yes i can tell from the clips i've heard that these are great amps but my concern is the difference in biasing of preamp tubes between the 70s and 90s preamp. I've heard that the 97 model is voiced close to marshall sound and doesn't have the nice clean of the 77 model... is this true? My ve...

Re: Tubes?

Well, IMO nothin beats the ubiquitous/reasonably unattainable RCA 6L6GCs, but seriously I also prefer the JJ 6L6, 6V6 and the Ruby 6L6MSTR. Have tried the Winged Cs and find they are a little harsh compared to the JJs. The cheap Sovteks 6L6s, (small base) also sound great for the price too. Another...

Re: My friend's Two Rock sounds better than my Fuchs

I have Fuch's hand wired Overdrive Supreme prototype (signed by Fuchs) and a Two Rock Amythest Special. The Fuchs is really lacking in bass response. and is thin and harsh compared to the Two Rock, which is big and full and clear and rich and seems to me to be an overall much better amp. My friend ...

I built an HRM with Metal Oxide Plate resistors and it's fantastic, I dn't know what the taboo is all about. Probably comes from the same people who think that Noisy flame hazzard Carbon comps are the coolest thing since DDT. howd ya guess?? they`ve never worked for ME using later circuits, my HOPE...

Re: Components?

I think I'll have to start using mouser. So far I've used hoffman, and planned to use tubesandmore, because they are so easy to navigate, and hav mainly guitar-amp stuff. Mouser has so much that i sometimes get lost looking.. but as long as you know what you're looking for, I suppose it ll work. To...

Re: Components?

Can any of you clear something up for me? In regard to plate resisters, I've heard conflicting opinions on using metal oxide. Some say never use them in that application. Any tonal reason to NOT use them? Some people are just stubborn. Metal films are quiet and have wider frequency range than carbo...
