Re: Components?
Can any of you clear something up for me? In regard to plate resisters, I've heard conflicting opinions on using metal oxide. Some say never use them in that application. Any tonal reason to NOT use them? Some people are just stubborn. Metal films are quiet and have wider frequency range than carbo...

Re: Red voltage selector switch - where to get them?
Anyone knows where to find them red voltage selector switch like the ones in the pic attached? Used those when i built for Diaz musical products 2 yrs ago! a GOOD equivalent is a Loren switch found in Mouser.com catalog. We`ll be using those in the new Matamp builds as well. E-mail me if you need h...

Re: Does Dumble sound so much better?
Hey Jim, I love those clips.... Hard to hear the amp in them over the heinous clipping and lack of fidelity. I'd love to hear Dr Bill's Dumble with a close miced SM57, losing the horrid clipping distortion of the clip. Nothing like having a small camera mic's low bandwidth to remove all the high en...

Re: Does Dumble sound so much better?
I've never played a real Dumble (I'd love to... anyone in the NC or MO area have one?), but the amps I've built around his circuits are some of the best I've ever played. The magic in a Dumble is a good design, good construction, good lead dress, and proper shielding where necessary. Plus he found ...

Re: more 70's photos
After searching through my photo archive I thought I would post these photos ( since I've got nothing much to talk about) for those that haven't seen them before or are sick of the #40 chassis shots. Someone mentioned that the #40 wasn't a nice sounding amp, I find it hard to believe as they were a...

Re: members builds in progress
FWIW I also used a 5751 PI for max clean headroom, I didn't want the clean side to break up. 100K and 110K is what I had at hand, I've also built them with 82K and 100K, and 2 100K's it makes little to no difference. As far as being "Thick and chocolatey" My Non Hrm amp is Liquid Magma, this one is...

Re: Dumbleland update (was SSS) :D
@Jay: what amp are you referring to? The one on the small pic with the 12AX7? If you are referring to the silver alligator amp (the one that uses EF86), this amp was referred to me as being a SSS. It did not have the Filter section btw. If you serviced that amp, could you please confirm he preamp s...

Funkalicousgroove wrote:That amp is very very "Pristine" clean, all my friends say it sounds "Transparent" it's definitely not thin or harsh sounding. The OD on this one sounds like Later RF, it's much lower gain than the non-HRM amp that I personally play, but I plan to build another just like it for myself at some point.

Re: members builds in progress
I s'pose you have all seen these, but I thought I'd post them here anyway. This one is an EL34 amp and uses a Heyboer Marshall PT, an OEI OT (Friggin superb by the way!!) and a Pacific Twin-reverb style choke. It basically follows the 1997 schematic that Dogears posted. I used a combination of 225p...

Re: Dunble amplifier web site
That's pretty outrageous. I'm surprised that HAD hasn't written a cease and desist. I know that many folks have copied the design and some have even copied the layout. But copying the logo? That may be a bit over the top for a commercial venture. (Of course I have no room to talk. I bought the Bang...
